Couple of Quick Thoughts:
1. That UGA team had too much talent to have that bad of a season.
2. Hines Ward was a helluva player
3. Auburn might have scored quite a bit of points, but with Joe Kines on the sidelines, there is no way we were burned on the “inside trout.”

Hell of a game. Glad to be able to say i was there but ashamed to say i left early. Listening to Auburn’s radio announcer (couldn’t find munson) call the end of the game and overtime was priceless

I still remember watching that game as a 13 year-old. Hines Ward was insane.

Didn’t he flunk out or something? He wasn’t the fastest guy in the world, but he had a hard-nosed style.

I had to watch it in a sports bar because our CBS affiliate, in their wisdom, decided to show Miami-Boston College (I think it was BC) locally instead. I had given up on the game before that fumble that allowed Georgia to cut it to 14 before halftime. It’s still one of the most amazing games I’ve watched. And it should have been over after one overtime. That pass interference call still kind of pisses me off.

Coach Richt would have redshirted Champ last year.
Ward would never haev gotten into the game because he would have been constantly getting switched from safety to running back to wide receiver to kick coverage specialist. He would have won the Brandon Miller/Kiante Tripp/Richard Samuel award at the spring sports banquet.
Edwards would have been behind Ealey and King because his pass-blocking was not as good as theirs was.

Coach Richt has a 69% win percentage without Brian Van Gorder.
Coach Donnan had a 68% win percentage without Brian Van Gorder.
Not saying that I am not an idiot, but if you have watched UGA football the last 2 years and believe that they have been anything approaching a well-coached bunch, then I am not sure how qualified you are to be calling others idiots.

Let’s not knock former coach Jim Donnan, bro. if you take out the first year (give the guy at least 1 year to get the Ray Goof out of the team he inherited) he was 35-12. That’s a winning percentage of .766 which is higher than Dooley and CMR. Donnan got fired for reasons other than performance of the team on the field. If his team that last year had gone undefeated he would have been untouchable. As it was he lost (8-4) enough games to allow the UGa President to fire him for the other reasons and make it stick.

Struck by the ending of that game, seeing one of our guys doing a cartwheel after the final play and wondering if the SEC refs would call a penalty on that in 2011.
Also amazed that the toss sweep seemed to work every time UGA ran it. Amazing how much the game has changed in 15 years. Or has it? Maybe we should try that out a little this season. Oh yeah, we don’t have any running backs. Oh well.

1. Ugliest Georgia uniforms. Black helmet stripes & awful numbers.
2. Hines Ward is a talent, and this game was his sublime college moment.
3. Robert Edwards’ biggest gift was the knack for using his blocking.
4. Mike Bobo deserves more credit as a college QB.
5. Whatever his leadership shortcomings, Jim Donnan was a nifty play caller.

Yep, this was one of those Lessons Learned moments for me. I was at the game, thought we had lost it and left early. Needless to say I haven’t left early from any game since. I was able to get to the hotel room and finish watching the game. My wife said, “we’re never leaving early again.” I definitely agreed.

Few thoughts as I watched:
1. Damn, I loved watching Robert Edwards run the ball.
2. Damn, I hated watching Hap Hines kick the ball.
3. There was a time when I was at least mildly fond of Bobo.
4. I should have known after this game the kind of talent Hines Ward possessed for the next level.
5. F*@k Auburn. (I can say that because my sister graduated from there.)

I was there also(did not leave early) and another thing that I remember to this day very well, the XPs were excruciating to watch in OT. And of course the one at the end of the game.

Bobo has been around long enough to remember a historical day by a UGA wideout can carry the day on The Plains. Hines Ward 1996, Michael Johnson 2002…AJ Green 2010. We should’ve keep going to #8 until they triple covered him.
A young Dooley is on the sideline and so is a young Muschamp for Aubie.
