The report suggests Missouri could earn $17.16 million in Big 12 TV money in fiscal year 2012, compared to $19.25 million from an SEC deal.
It also envisions a far bigger “per member share potential” should a larger SEC – with millions of more eyeballs in Texas and the Midwest – renegotiate its top-tier TV rights — up to $12 million more per year. [Emphasis added.]
Holy Mother of Crap – that’s over $30 million dollars a year per school. Just for top-tier TV rights.
Anybody who thinks the conference intends to stay at thirteen for any appreciable length of time is delusional.

If SEC Network becomes a reality we’re talking $40-$45 million/team/year. Numbers like that bring ACC teams and their $20 million exit fee back into play.

Why do I feel like doing a maniacal laugh when I read about expansion. I suppose I wouldn’t feel that way if my team was in the Big 12 or Big East.
I agree with LHB above. If the SEC Network does what many others are doing (controlling and producing the content), then all of a sudden those numbers jump into the stratosphere.
We were talking about WWL a few weeks ago. I think this is their biggest fear. As technology gets better and easier to produce shows, you will have the SEC and other big sports organizations creating and controlling their own content. Getting a new channel on cable or satellite is pretty simple these days.

We’re not there already?! This past Friday night the Winnersville Classic between Valdosta and Lowndes was on ‘The U’. It made the game ridiculously long. Those timeouts seemed excessive in both length and quantity, ridiculous I say.

The big concern about adding #14 (Mizzou?) to the SEC is we’ll need to go to a 9 game conference schedule rotation. One solution would be to designate 4 teams, 2 from each division, as annual doormats and their games will simply count as cupcake games. Considering the weakness of the Big 12 overall, it will be easy to assign TAMU and MIzzou along with Vandy to this group. KY, Ole Miss and Miss St. could rotate as the 4th. To be fair, whenever one of the “DC” (designated cupcake) teams get 2 or more conference wins, they can “tap-out” and substitute a team in their place. The substitute cupcake (“SC”) could be Memphis for now, seeing as how they desperately want to be in the SEC and would likely sit on the sidelines each season waiting for their chance to cash in against Bama, LSU, UGA, etc.
If somehow Memphis could reach the 2+ win threshold, then we could reconsider GT as the “UD” substitute in any given season. (Ultimate Doormat).

On a serious note, when the NCAA went to a 12 game schedule that was basically an engraved invitation to the SEC and others to expand and go to a 9 game conference schedule. UGA has to be very careful about this. We play the WLOCP in Jax every year and in those years where UGA is the fictional “home” team we only get 3 SEC home games as it is. If we go to a 9 game SEC schedule that means that half the conference will have to play 5 SEC away games and only get 4 SEC home games. I can forsee a situation where, if the SEC schedule falls wrong, UGA could have only 3 SEC home games some years. That is a decided disadvantage for the Dawgs that we should never allow.

That is the logical way to handle it. Since when did the SEC do things logically? Last season Bama, of all teams, had to play 6 opponents that had the week off prior to their game with Bama. Do not think for one moment that the SEC would not schedule UGA to have 3 SEC home games, 5 SEC away games and the WLOCP (which is really an away game as it is not in Sanford Stadium, after all) in the same season. The real losers in such a situation would be the UGA fans, particularly season ticket holders.

That’s why the Designated Cupcakes idea would work! They’d always play on the road to collect the $$$. With the cash, they eventually improve (see Auburn, Cam Newton edition) and then you swap-out a cupcake on the list for a season or two.

The Mizzou thing works if when the SEC goes to 16 teams they add NC State and Virginia Tech. Look at the map and the SEC footprint would be huge. I gotta believe something like that is already in the pipeline.
