Pat Dye doesn’t think so (h/t MrSEC.com).
“I still don’t like South Carolina,” Dye said. “Hell no, it was against Kentucky. They could all score 60 or 70 points against Kentucky. Let them throw for 300 yards against Alabama or LSU, then I’ll be impressed with South Carolina.”
Dye said he ranks his former team, Auburn, in the bottom half of the SEC.
“You got LSU and Alabama at the top,” he said, “then under that you got Arkansas, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.”
Interestingly, Dye gets some statistical support from Bill C., who observes,
… Georgia, meanwhile, surged into the top 20 and solidified my impression of them as the East favorite. South Carolina and Florida could obviously still have something to say about that, but a) Florida needs a quarterback, and b) South Carolina needs to look great against somebody other than Kentucky before I get back to believing in them. (P.S. How bad is Kentucky? South Carolina destroyed them in every possible way and still fell out of the F/+ Top 25. Ouch.) [Emphasis added.]
Sure will be interesting to see which way things head in the SEC East over the next three weeks…

Yeah, this is the first time in history that South Carolina has beaten Georgia and then stopped talking smack about it after only a few weeks. They know they got lucky. Unfortunately, I also know that they’re pretty damn lucky with the way the schedule sets up. I don’t know that I’d bet anything I cared about on Mississippi State beating them. It’s really all on Arkansas’ shoulders.

Arky will drill SC, and I wouldn’t be shocked to see MSU upset them. Like you, I wouldn’t bet it but they are in StarkVegas and MSU is a desperate animal…one that clawed back at LSU earlier this season. SC is unimpressive enough that even TN could push them, it isn’t like Conner Shaw has a great resume so everyone can stack the box for Lattimore and find out why Shaw stayed behind Garcia after all his histrionics on, and off, the field. It isn’t like SOS didn’t want to jerk the jerk before this week.

Yes, they were pricks (not Cocks) before they won the East last year, they became insufferable after that. A good smackdown will be fun to watch. Minus our unforced errors, that September 10 game could have been a 21 point smackdown from us. How in the hell did we lose that game when we dominated so? Have to feel the football gods have something good in store for us after that abortion of a result.

To be fair they still control their own destiny at 5-1. this favorite of the sec east talk is really meaningless unless we win our next two games. I also do not believe uf is as bad as they’ve looked against bama and lsu. be honest how bad would any team look against those defenses without their starting qb. that said i still believe that uf is the real litmus test for if our program and coach have truly turned the corner. we can beat them we just need to know and believe it.

Yeah, but if you felt FU was so bad before they played these teams and you didn’t get that feeling from their two losses…….? I gave FU plus 7(spread was 3-4 pts) before Bama to a FU guy and didn’t look twice when FU scored first. That’s how bad I rated them before they played. My assessment didn’t stem from those games.
Things change that change the game each week. Thought that Murray would have reached his groove by now, so my assessment has changed because of a change in part of our team. Fearing FU’s ability to get Demps and Rainey into space has been problematic. They have to get past the line of scrimmage in one piece and then get open where our secondary can drill them. Accomplishing both against this D may be met with a little fear on FU’s part after their helmets are planted once. Leave that to Gilliard and Co. as the 4 players rotate their drill on the “speedsters” They won’t be so speedy then. And their confidence will ooze out as it did in the LSU and Bama games.

USA Today is where I get my odds. Five betting houses waivered between 3-4 pts with 4 pts more often given. It just seems the odds were larger after the game. Before the game, I didn’t see any “Bama will kick their ass” quotes.

I’m afraid this screams of 07 again. Sadly, I think we had a better shot if Garcia was still the quarterback. I think Shaw is gonna bring some stability to their offense. As much as I believe that we are gonna win out, I’m not holding out hope that SC will actually stumble. Read this old story and read the comments/mentality of our fans – http://georgiasports.blogspot.com/2007/09/five-questions-for-ron-morris.html I think it relates to how we are banking on the SC of old, and while it could happen, who’s to say they haven’t turned a corner.

Gotta disagree. There was a reason the Ol’ Ball Sack played Garcia instead of Shaw. SOS actually tried his best to make Shaw the starter in their first game and it didn’t work. Shaw is a dropoff from Garcia talent-wise.

This ain’t the 70’s. It doesn’t matter how good we are or how bad FU is. They posess some magical power to beat us.
Also, stop saying “if” about USC. That game’s gone. Hell, “if” Garcia would have hot that game, it would have been a whole lot greater spread than 3.
