    That first half was as fine a defensive performance as I’ve ever seen.

      The first half was absolute, utter domination of the #1 team in the country. Grantham and his troops were ready for battle. Loved the defense in the first half. It was absolutely electric when the field got flipped and the LSU offense was backed up next to the endzone right in front of the student section.

      Wish we could’ve had that feeling for the whole game…

    I still can’t understand what happened to the D in the 2nd half. I know the offense put them in holes and that LSU wore them down, but Jesus, 28 points?

    I was forced to sit in the LSU section on Saturday. The Tiger fans were great to me, incredibly nice, and they even put up with me cheering as Georgia played well in the first half. One of the more painful moments of my day was when one of my new purple-and-gold friends turned around at the end of the game and said, “if you ever get a chance, thank your coaches for the short fields in the second half. We were worried.”

    In that atmosphere by the end of the half, I was starting to get a few magical shivers down my spine… uh, they subsided.

      Me too, but only watched the kickoff for the second half, flipped back to see where we were in time to see LSU score (didn’t know why they had the ball) and once more to see the next score within 30 secs. Saw only a total of 45 secs in the second half purposefully because I had that feeling and couldn’t watch (Knew I would see it on review Sunday). Went shopping for anything to get out of the house and to savor the first half over and over. Glad I did. If I had seen the entire half, would have walked down to the lake and choked a couple of gators.

    I think the stage may have been a little too large for some of our players. Malcolm Mitchell makes that catch 9 out of 10 times. Unfortunately, he dropped it when we needed it most. King has had an up and down year and really struggles with the high ball. Nevertheless that should have been 6 for the Dawgs. I think all the drops were frustrating Murray and quite frankly rattled him. His body language demonstrated a kid that was not happy with himself or his receivers.

    On Defensive I was disappointed in Rambo, who went back to his old Grandma tackling ways and loafing during plays. Sanders Commings also dropped a ball right in his hands.

    The OL was playing lights out for 1.75 Qtrs., then LSU’s depth and talent took over. You could see the momentum shifting late in the 2nd Qtr., when Bean Anderson started to fall apart. When Walsh missed the field goal you could see the helium come out of our balloon.

    There’s nothing to hang our hat about. LSU is on another planet and we’re very young.

      LSU’s last two scoring drives were most difficult to watch because they weren’t tackling, instead they became ball wrestlers to change the direction of the game. That’s when I knew that Grantham had given instructions at half to reverse the turnover margin (in keeping with the stats he believes in according to info from the Senator’s blog two weeks ago). Sadness turned to chagrin when Rambo had a footrace with Blue, could have tackled him at the 15, but elected to try and negate the play by swatting the ball out at the goal line.

        I was yelling at my TV then…I’d guess we gave up 80 yards rushing off going for the strip instead of simply tackling them.

    Undersized challenger does his homework, knowing he’s gotta knock the guy down quick and get a KO or at least a lot of points early in the fight cuz he’s gonna get worn down in the later rounds.
    So, he comes out swinging and starts landing combinations, stunning the big champ… but when he throws the haymakers, he just can’t connect cleanly.
    Then he takes a good counterpunch and loses the initiative, realizes he’s missed his shot, loses heart, and the mathematics kick in, with both fighters’ performance reverting to the mean.

    We had a great game plan and we executed it very well… but we dropped the ball on the haymakers.
