Actually, the NCAA can’t even do that, as it’s granted Ohio State permission to exceed the limit on coaching staff members through bowl season. I gather from the reaction at other schools that this isn’t normal, despite the assurances to the contrary from Ohio State’s assistant AD for compliance.
I can understand the NCAA’s reasoning here. If Gene Smith couldn’t properly monitor one coaching staff, is it really going to matter if you give him two to supervise?

Rumor is Missouri flew Urban out for visit and want him to take over their program – it will help ease their transition to the SEC. Urban has kept this secret visit from the OSU Admin despite actively recruiting for OSU at the present. An inside source also reports that Chris Spielman will replace Meyer at OSU.

They already did it once for them and look how well that worked out. Now if tOSU beats Fla, it will have used suspended players and more coaches then you are allowed to beat 2 SEC schools. Its like the B10 claims we cheat, yet the SEC never gets caught on nething this bad, then they let tOSU cheat like hell. All so they can beat some SEC teams in bowl games to give them bragging rights I guess.

The rationale is interesting: we don’t have coaches who are doing both recruiting and coaching. How is that fair? Meyer gets to concentrate on recruiting without the bother of coaching. Oh, yeah, that seems right.

I think this precedent will lower the bar for firing coaches. AD’s won’t have to worry about the negative effect of (1) a mid-december transition on the field or (2) a mid-January transition on year one recruiting.
Also, does this mean that Urban has decided not to keep ANY of the current staff? I haven’t been keeping up with the story, but . . . Ouch!

This is pome de rue and deja vue all over again. How can any organization create two staffs as under the rules we all operate under? Excuse me, we don’t have to prepare for the same game date as they do, yet we must sacrifice recruitment for preparation? It’s the rest of the NCAA schools that have no cojones if they don’t create a separate group to recruit beginning right now. Dispensation for the Sugar Bowl last year is one thing, but a school that has not yet been fully adjudicated for past sins can have two staffs to get a leg up on all schools going to a bowl game? Exactly what transcends this reasoning?
I now know what shorn sheep feel like. And there is no outcry? What in hell is going on? All schools should recruit with separate staffs and when the NCAA comes to impose sanctions, you easily can say you are taking advantage of the new holiday dispensation. Since when don’t you have to suffer a problem penalty when you change coaches? If there is no outcry then I feel that everyone has relented to ESPN dominance and favoritism toward connected coaches to get away with anything they desire. Where is the outcry for this totally bullshit decision? It will affect us. Watch where Crier recruits and takes away from our base. This is an advantage beyond cheating that is backed by the NCAA! Enough already!

Can’t believe this has not been challenged. Two staffs at one time is seriously breaking all NCAA rules. No one gets anything extra by changing staffs. It ain’t like a tornado took everyone out, it’s their own fault for changing staffs. They deserve a penalty in their recruiting or forfeit the bowl game. Take your frigging choice. How can no one see this is all wrong in every way? All schools should be hammering the NCAA offices right now.

This was done in Nov and it just comes to light before the weekend? All schools should resign from the NCAA immediately and form another organization henceforth. Leave tOSU out in the cold.

Do you mean that a school can hire 17 coaches broken into two groups with differing overall responsibilities? As long as the groups don’t overlap in responsibility? Where in any St Nick rule book for Christmas does it say that?
We can’t hire a Special Teams Coach because we would have too many coaches on staff?
Of course this doesn’t include minions of grad assts as well, does it? Muschamp loses his O Coach for recruiting purposes, but has to compete with an OSU grab of all the Fla recruits they can get using a staff of 10 coaches just to recruit against him. Where is the equity and fairness with that? Plus he has to put up with a new head coach at Kansas who has the list of all your recruits? One bends him over and the other piles on? I know Fla was formed as a place to house prisoners, but ,Dang!, not formed to continue into the modern era with a prison mentality.
Let’s see: “Two of you take Tampa and area, two of you head for Miami, one for Jax and one with statewide responsibility. That will start for Fla. Now two head for Atlanta plus one more for statewide recruiting. Two of us will assume the midwest and West Coast responsibility. Head North toward Columbus and sweep thru OBC’s, Barbara’s son’s and Fedora’s territory before they get wise. See ya back here in 4 weeks for Christmas and then we go over the haul. Merry Christmas, everyone! Don’t forget. Don’t make contact with anyone coaching the bowl team. They are just having an exibition game with an old school of mine and they no longer work here. the way the ncaa is handling osu, maybe they are just hoping osu will not fire them. Slap on the wrist for sanctions and allow them to hire a extra corches since they will be limited by one scholly a year.
Slap the major schools on the wrist and break it off in small schools to show everyone you mean business, the ncaa acts like a school yard bully.
