The train between Athens and Milledgeville runs both ways.

After the fallout from last week’s dismissal, Georgia Military College may both giveth and taketh away.  In the short run, given the roster numbers, the former matters more:

Meanwhile, GMC is also home to a player that Georgia is thinking of offering a scholarship, possibly as soon as this year. Mario Alford, a running back who could play defensive back, spent the past year at GMC and could transfer immediately to a Division I school and have three years of eligibility, much like Mark Beard, the offensive lineman who enrolled at Georgia last month.

The Bulldogs are now in desperate need for depth at defensive backs, thanks to the dismissals of Marshall and Sanders. Williams said Monday that Georgia has not offered a scholarship to Alford yet.

“But they know about him,” Williams said.

If he can help, it’s pretty much a no-brainer.

What ever happens to all the kids we sign and send to schools like this? They never seem to end up at UGA? CAn we sign more JUCO talent this year to beef up the ranks? Seems like it is worht considering.

Outlaw was there and still a part of our recruited class two years ago. Seemed he still has scholastic problems. Maybe that’s the way most of the washouts washout. I’m sure our coach has full info and aren’t jumping at the pushes for this guy for reasons they don’t have to divulge to anyone. Let it go and let the staff work their jobs since they know best in this situation. Some posts have been pushing this guy for weeks.

So the fans go from telling our coaches how to coach and now how to recruit. When does this embarrassing egotism stop? Just another ruse to criticize for no good reason. I’m surprised that you have even given this word service, Senator.

Extraordinary times call for unorthodox solutions, if Alford has the physical skills to play DB it is time to get him on campus. The recent losses and uncertainty surrounding Commings means we have to take a chance on some who might otherwise need more seasoning. GMC has provided help in the past, we need to tap all resources at this point. There were 2-3 players we had hopes for at GMC who didn’t work out recently, we could use a break.

Does Georgia really have less scholarship players on roster than USC, who is operating under a 10-scholarship penalty this year? How is that possible?

Lane jobbed the system and recruited 30 last year while the NCAA was hearing USC’s appeal. The loss of 30 started this year. In fact USC has more recruited scholarship players than UGA. We have walk-on guys we throw a bone to.

The point discussed the other day though was that less than 85 scholarships was the MO at USC long before the sanctions. The scholarship limit was never going to negatively impact USC.

I would say needing 5 picks to beat Boston College in a pre-Christmas bowl would be a “negative impact.”

USC just got nailed with a massive probation. It’s a poor example of “success with limited scholarship numbers.”

The NCAA hands out scholarship reductions as penalties for a reason.

We don’t need no stinking cornerbacks. CGT is going to unveil a new 3-7-1 this year.

I wish undersigning had the same stigma as oversigning.

Oversigning has no stigma at Bama, Auburn, South Carolina, LSU, Ole, Miss, Mississippi State, Arkansas and I am betting Texas A&M soon. It only has stigma in Nashville, Athens and Gainesville (we’ll see how long that lasts now that Muschump is there). The rest , UK, UT, Mizzou, appear to be neutral on the subject. How long it will take for them to start oversigning is anyone’s guess. I’m betting soon.

I dont even question our defence. Grantham has that covered. he recruits players for his system that can be interchanged. CMR , Friend, & Bobo need to figure the offence out and how to score in the red zone.

If this keeps up, CMR may have to resort to this:
