Some of you people disappoint me.

I mean, I’ve waited all day for all sorts of “nice guys finish last”, “that’s not what Saban does” or the always reliable “and that’s in addition to Georgia undersigning every year” comments here in response to this piece, and what do I get?  Crickets.

too busy dumping on adams…cmr as nice guy meme isnt actually the off season red-meat we need around these parts…now if you can find a story where white guys from sandy springs can talk about what black guys from college park should be doing with their lives you might have gotten some clicks…

Stay classy CMR is my first thought – minus the Scotch of course.

Allow me to celebrate delightful ironic twist that the article ran the day Adams the Ethicist resigned. The Lord loveth him some contrast.

Would that it was that day, but he’s gonna hang around another 13 mos. He announced he IS GOING TO resign next year.

We don’t know the real story yet Cojo. I’m betting he’s being quietly forced out. This is to: (1) Give him a chance to save face; and (2) Give UGA a chance to find the right replacement. Nathan is probably behind this (God Bless him).

You’d be wrong. The minute the School of Engineering was OK’d, he was finished. Put that on top of the Health Sciences Campus, then the pieces are in place for the next guy to push UGA into AAU.

Deal is not Sonny. He’s not going to get in pissing matches with UGA or the BOR.

Senator, if it wasn’t for you, that clown would never be read by most Dawgs on here. His choices cast aspersions on Richt with the “nice” vs “TOO nice” horse manure.

If I’m not mistaken, Richt has directed players leaving not to go to an East team. The fact Mettenberg was kicked out for disciplinary reasons should make him hands off in the SEC, but Miles demonstrates what he thinks of discipline by the UGA Head Coach when he picked Mett up. Remember the QB(best in the country) Miles had to get rid of when he first got to LSU? Weren’t the same reasons in play?

It’s Mettenberger, and there really is no comparison between Zach’s history and Perriloux’s. Mettenberger made one mistake (or a series of them at one time). Perilloux is a multiple repeat offender in ways Mettenberger could not have dreamed of.

Believe me when I say ,”I know”. Bad Dawg to leave the end off his name. My point was that they were both social offenders, but Richt’s also tied into prevarications by Mettenberger. What makes Miles consider that’s not a character deficiency?

I know. He doesn’t care when he has a QB that can throw a ball that whistles.

I am sure you “know”, but Ryan Perilloux was under federal investigation for counterfeiting, among other things, so, to my way of thinking connecting he and Mettenberger is a bit of a stretch.

I understand what you are trying to say, although I don’t see how “Richt’s also tied into prevarications by Mettenberger” unless you mean the kid lied to the coaching staff on the first go-round, which even I “know”.

The telling thing to me about Miles is how many times he let Perilloux get away with something similar to what got Mettenberger kicked out of school.

Perilloux and Mettenberger? Apples and coconuts.

  6. To be candid, the Dawgs do undersign most years. That is, in comparison to the inevitable, Bama. Why? I honestly don’t know, but I do know that it puts our depth in jeopardy and on a ‘self imposed’ probation of sorts.

I cant name one Transfer from UGA that has given us trouble on the field with a different team. Also Mett isnt a transfer…he was booted…Thus if he comes back to haunt us it is not the same. The only transfer recently to have any impact was JJ coming from USC to us.
Also see that keeping a player who does not want to play for you around is stupid. You might as well go pick some random person from the University to have their scholarship. It would be just as useful to the team.

+1. If a kid didn’t want to be here I wouldn’t want him here.

I don’t think he transferred. He wasn’t allowed in by the University at the last minute. I think the same thing occurred with Jamar Chaney who ended up at Miss St. if I am remembering correctly.

All my buddies call me a “Richt apologist” but I’ve always thought that Coach Richt is the best thing to happen to Georgia. I’m not concerned that he is going to sell his soul to win; he’ll work hard to get there and try to do it the right way, but I don’t see him taking any shortcuts to get there, and I like that about him; his letting guys transfer who aren’t on the bus to anywhere they want is what I would expect of him; he is going to beat you with who ever he has.

  9. It doesn’t matter. If Saban tries to assist player in finding a new school then he would be clearing space on the 85 and if he puts restrictions on a player trying to find a new school he would be clearing a space on the 85 and being an asshole. So…it just doesn’t matter.

What about when, a week before signing day, he tells a long-time commit that he won’t be able to enroll in August? Is he being a stand-up guy then?

CMR’s attitude is more evidence of his losing control over the program, for which I blame Bobo.

    There…have a good night’s sleep, Senator.

I admire Richt’s determination to stand by kids, but it’s the same impulse that led him to stand by some coaches way past their expiration date. Why do we howl for grow men with families to be uprooted and sent packing and bash CMR for being overly loyal, but then pat ourselves on the back when he displays the exact same impulse with his players?

USC is ten players below the scholarship limit for 3 years per NCAA mandate, a penalty considered one of the worst the NCAA has even doled out. Some schools in the SEC are 10 below voluntarily, because they operate with the assumption that all the kids will work out. I understand the ethical stance behind that assumption.

I also know that the sun rises in the east every morning, no matter how strong an ethical case might be made for it rising in the west.

If Richt took the position that the 85 roster spots at Georgia were some of the most coveted in the game and had higher on-field and off-field standards as a result, he would take some flak for it. We would see more kids come and go. Would that thenmake Richt a bad person?

Question: does CMR strike the right balance between honoring “a kids’ dreams” and maintaining Georgia’s single best advantage on the field: filling its 85 roster spots with the best players possible? Does he stick with coaches too long but players just right?

    Don’t know. Ask Walsh.

Boy, I would just hate for every move I make as Coach to be analysed by all fans who see things differently than what they are( a coach coaching college football) and then have them played back as character assessments.
