I know this is being written from the Gator perspective, but still, “Florida/Georgia rivalry has life again”? Somebody isn’t getting it – and I say that as a Georgia fan who suffered through one of the most miserable games in the series in ’09. I’ve never seen anyone in Jax, garbed in orange or red, who didn’t want a win and didn’t suffer a loss unhappily in the aftermath.
Here’s the first of his five reasons for that:
The Gator Stomp — Georgia’s players rushed the end zone to celebrate running back Knowshon Moreno’s 1-yard touchdown run nine minutes into the 2007 game. Georgia coach Mark Richt is partly responsible because he told the players before the game that he wanted to see them celebrate raucously when the Bulldogs scored. He didn’t mean on the field, but that’s what happened. It sparked the Bulldogs to a 42-30 victory.
The “Gator Stomp”? There’s your problem right there, bud.
I know ’09 was miserable (at least it was on TV), but I’ve never been as angry and / or miserable at ANY UGA game as the ’08 Florida game.
I’ve been going to the WLOCP pretty regularly since 1990, but that ’08 game was it for me for a while. I’ll go down to SSI for the trip and good times, and I’ll still watch the game, of course, but I won’t be attending it again for some time.

Last year was really fun. I hope this year is too. I just hope none of the DAWG fans sell their tickets to Gators. There is nothing worse than seating in our section surrounded by Gators.

Nothing worse? Last year my buddies and I scalped tickets and ended up on the 35 yard line in Gator territory. THAT was pretty miserable. Never trust a scalper when they say Oh yeah, these are in the UGA side…

actually since we won for a change I’d have thought sitting on the gator side would be a blast!

dude, there is nothing and I mean nothing better than beating Florida while sitting around arrogant, cocky, loud Gator fans. I’ve never experienced a fan base so eager to talk shit and so quick to STFU once they begin losing.

I’m with you entirely. The ’08 game was absolutely horrible. In ’09, we were still in the game until we just made too many mistakes. In ’08, we got our asses handed to us. The only game worse than that was the Blackout against Bama that year.

Mr, too, Jeff. I had been going to the WLOCP every year starting when Gerald Ford was president and 2008 was the last. I vowed to never attend again and I have not. The view from my nice television is just fine.
Putting up the traffic and parking is bad enough but the UF fans are unbearable.

That too (08) was the last cocktail party I attended. What a total mattress deification. My kids are on me this year to take them, so possibly this will be there year I return. Oh by the way, I live in Jax. 2010, I drove to SSI to watch the game at a party.

Why would you deify a mattress? Was there a stain on it that looked like a religious icon?

LOL. Spurrier may be talking, but the Jax game is still the most important and exciting for Georgia.

He’s trying to be consistent with the Gator Flop, another lowlight of Florida football pre-history.

The Gators got Stomped so . . . I have no issue with it. At least it’s more memorable than “The Celebration.”

O8?, 09?….hell, I remember nobody being able to catch Richard Trapp….losses are all equally bad…it is like arguing which pile stinks worse.

I want to match 1942 (75-0) sometime purely in retaliation for 1995. I don’t care that there have been 3 head coaches since then because it would be specifically for the No-class Gator fans.

The past is the past, and while I get angry at times thinking about the past 20 years, the only thing that matters is this 2012 and beyond. Florida returns a defense that should really improve this year, but the offense….who knows? I think we have the edge in nearly every category aside from special teams, which is huge, but I think we’ll beat the asses again. And beating Florida, at any sport, never gets old.
Remember guys, the pendulum always swings both ways.
