It’s not like you’ve got anything better to watch today.

Munsonless, but wonderful.

Thirty-plus years later, it still amazes me seeing fans on the field celebrating with the players during a game.

Never realized how bad Frank Broyles was back in the day.

Sure would have been a lot more exciting if we had a playoff to look forward to. Lindsey’s play would have meant a higher seeding and we wouldn’t have cared what was also happening in Atlanta that day.

Disagree, Derek. I was there and it could not have been more exciting . Also, we won the national championship. No need to play more games.

Sorry. That was sarcasm. The point is that it was PERFECT! No need for tinkering much less fixing. In fact the most recent developments would have made that moment be less notable. Back then had we lost we would have been done. With a playoff the outcome may have been insignificant either way. I don’t think that’s a good thing. Moreover, I’d like to hear a playoff proponent explain how it’s implementation would do anything but diminish a play like that.

It’s a trade-off. Instead of this kind of play of this kind of importance happening in the regular season, there is reason to expect it happening in a playoff or national championship game.

But not in the same context of Florida in Jacksonville. The lore of Lindsay Scott means soo much because: Florida, in Jacksonville(and Larry Munson- Nobody could ever try to replicate a call like his).

I submit it would not have meant less just because it was Florida in Jacksonville. Has the Tech rivalry meant less? That game rarely means anything.

Can not agree any more than I am now. Georgia-Florida should mean everything. And it did. This one moment. Give me one game in January preceded by this, and Herschel against Tennessee, and against George Rogers in Athens, at Auburn, vs. GA Tech. This is what I grew up on and why I love this game.

That was the best sporting event I have ever witnessed in person. I was one of the fools who went on the field after the game and it is one of the reasons I will ALWAYS want to go to JAX for this game. Go DAWGS. it is time to dominate the gators again – we WILL win 2 in a row.

  3. I really don’t know whether to thank you or be pissed at you Senator. I just pissed away well over an hour watching the replay of a game I was at , watched on the Vince Dooley show later that week, have the vast majority of on a VHS tape of the GA Nat’l Championship season ,have watched on DVD with my son (whose mother was my date to that game) and heard Munson call no less that a thousand times………let’s just say I knew how this game..Sorry THE GAME… turned out but I watched it anyway. Kind of like the Shawshank Redemption just have to watch. Thank you for reminding me and I Wanna Red Cup why we’re fans…….,for moments like those.
Does anyone on this blog or on the interwebs know who the drunken frat boy who was counter-rotating his arms and jumping around like crazed stork in the end zone after Lindsey Scott’s touchdown might be? Who he is,how he got down on the field, does he know how goofy total joy looks and does he remember a thing from that day? I’ve always suspected he’s a Judge or a Hedge Fund manager but wonder if any old dawg knows his background and will share.

The drunken frat boy is Blutarsky. He’s never admitted it though.

Some guy wrote a book about the game and identified him. I have not read the book so I do not know who he is but the info is out there.
