And, now, this moment of levity is brought to you by…

Malcolm Mitchell.

He said he was 80 percent with his sprained ankle. So was he surprised he was allowed to return punts?

“No, but they probably won’t let me back there no more.”

Mark Richt has lost control of muffing bad punts.

I understand field position, every inch, etc., but…

Noticed this in the Florida game, too. Every aTm punt that was downed by the Aggies, a Florida returner would always be within feet of it, dancing around, just asking to have the ball take a funny bounce right into his shins.

Fellas, just let. It. Go. Get the yards back when you’re on offense.

Point taken, but I tend to think it depends on the ball skills, awareness and “cerebral-ness” of the personnel you have fielding the punt. It’s aggravating to watch a punt travel 30 yards in the air and bumble along to net 55. That said…

I don’t mind MM26’s decision to try and preserve some field position because he possesses all three attributes mentioned above. But field it and give yourself up. Dive on it. Cover it up and play dead. Do some barrel rolls if you like. Just don’t ever, ever, ever (that enough?) try to advance the ball against 4-6 unblocked opponents.

In the grand scheme of things, no harm-no foul. I chalk it up to overaggressiveness/stupidity/naivety, and he’s learned his lesson.

Off topic, but Senator are you reserving an entire post for another missed pass to the FB in the flat ( I forget the name – 344 something)? I wanna see that play work so bad, it hurts.

He looked more than 80% when he ran that Mizzou RB down from behind. That was a big play.

Just so I’ve got this straight….beating Buffalo by 20-something drops us behind FSU in the polls, but beating Mizzou by the same amount on the road doesn’t leap us back?

    AP voters are stupid.

I’m not saying we should be in the top 5 on account of beating Mizzou…heck, I think Carolina and Michigan State might have better wins than any of the teams ahead of them not named Alabama….but I just don’t understand the logic.

FWIW, we’re only five points behind Ok and FSU. Of course, if we don’t beat FAU by 50 ( and you know CMR won’t), we’ll lose ground because we’re not “sexy”.

Plus, FSU, the darling of ESPN predictors, will always go up. They will pass Ok soon, since they passed us and are tied with Ok after two cupcake wins. Now where are you people hiding who say the polls are meaningful and not beauty contests?

Everyone was warned before the season started, it’s just that many can’t acknowledge that sports journalism is a different animal infested with many fleas. Here’s where we, the fans, come into our part of the biological axiom:

        Big fleas have little fleas upon their backs to bite’em;
Little fleas have littler fleas, and so to infinitum.

        We be the little fleas.

How good are we? Did we beat a really good SEC team on the road or a middle of the pack team playing over their heads in the first half and running out of gas in the second? I’m not sure I really know. We did lots of good things on both sides of the ball. Can we keep it up against different competition? What should I be thinking at this point?

I sent Emerson and Weiszer a note on this very thing. How is it FSU blows out two awful FCS teams and Oklahoma plays terrible on the road at UTEP and blows out an even worse FCS team but yet both are ranked ahead of us? Doesn’t make any sense at all to me. If we were 7th to begin with I wouldn’t be bitching about moving up but the fact that we were moved DOWN after the Buffalo game and not moved back up after last night is just wrong. If we go into the end of the season and finish 3rd with an undefeated FSU and undefeated Oklahoma ahead of us I am going to be pissed.

    • 2 teams are tied for 5th in the Ap and we are only 5 points/votes behind them. In other words, we did gain ground. We are well positioned for a move into the Top 4 after the SC game.

Saying we gained ground is a little bit misleading…Arky’s points had to go somewhere. FSU had 25 more points in this week’s poll than last weeks….Oklahoma picked up 10 points.

Here’s a tidbit…two voters have UGA outside of the top 10.

Josh Kendall of the State in Columbia, SC has us at #13…he had us at #11 preseason, dropped us to 14th, and moved us up one notch after the game at Mizzou.

Cecil Hurt of the Tuscaloosa news has us at #11 but his voting is even worse. He had us sitting at #12 last week behind Wisky and Arky. They both lose, Georgia wins….UGA moves up to no worse than #10, right? Uhh….wrong. Michigan State’s victory over Central Michigan was so impressive that they vaulted the Dawgs into 10th on his ballot.

        Just stupid.

Malcolm, they’ll send you back out there multiple times. Because they know you’ll never try that again.

I love Malcolm Mitchell, but that fumbled punt was not smart. And there was absolutely no need for that in-your-face taunting of the Mizzou receiver after he made the first down. The hit was good, but the receiver accomplished his mission. And we are very fortunate that we did not get flagged for taunting on that play.

Love the aggressiveness, but need to play smart.

I was irritating by the taunting as well, but according to some of the articles I’ve read, the Mizzou players came out a bit chippy and mouthy. Not an excuse, really, but it is probably the reason for Mitchell’s behavior, which seemed uncharacteristic to me.

I thought Swann did a pretty good job last week. I don’t know why they would pass on him to put a dinged-up Mitchell back there.

  9. Malcome was lookin’ to lay the wood last night. He had two giant hits, not the least of which was a brutalization of a receiver on the sideline in the first quarter.
