Prior to yesterday, this is how opposing quarterbacks fared against Nebraska’s pass defense on third down: 42-122, 459 yards, 4 TDs, 5 INTs. That translates into a passer rating of 68.65.
This is what Aaron Murray did on third down against Nebraska.
I don’t know if Bill is using “Goodness” as an expression or a description, but either works. Murray’s passer rating on third down was a staggering 273.31.

Wow. I was telling some guys as we were watching the game – this game played out the opposite of what I expected. That is, we ran the ball ok against their pitiful run D and through the ball exceptionally well against what was the best passing D in the country.

I doubt McCarron will be re-taking the efficiency lead against ND, which also posts a 105 Opponents’s Passer rating. If he does, congrats to him, but otherwise we’ve got the #1 passer in the country. I really, really hope Murray decides to come back.

In large part because of all the 3rd down success, the game wound up feeling like a blowout. If TK had hauled in that 4th down throw, then the scoreboard would have more accurately reflected what the game had become after a tight first 35 minutes.
A lot of people have complained about the D’s play, but, hell, we won by two TDs against a decent opponent after a month break. I’m perfectly fine with that.

The Bobo sucks meme is moldy beyond stale, yet even yesterday, the complaints persisted (it’s one of many reasons i can’t be bothered to spend time at those places any longer–I checked only today, and sure enough, right on cue…).

As someone who has been possibly maybe just a tiny bit overcritical of Coach Bobo in the past, a decent running game was probably tops on his Christmas list last year. Having the gift of Gurshall, he can scheme away. Having two backs averaging better than six a carry would make you a liitle more confident about taking a shot every now and then.
Got to hand it to him. Although with a gassed defense I would have gone for it on the 4th and one. especially with two backs averaging better than six a carry.

Yeah, but who had Nebraska really played? And we wouldn’t have had to pass so much if we had managed a decent running game, or if the dumb OC had sense enough to just pound away with the rock, so the numbers are inflated because Bobo doesn’t know what he’s doing. And Murray put these numbers up against weak opposition–I know that because ESPN says so. Plus, Murray is really lucky with the wide receivers he’s got. You just wait, when Mason gets in there, he’ll do at least as well, and probably much better, because he’s taller and has had a whole year to think hard about the playbook. And that’ll prove what a loser Bobo is and they’ll finally get rid of him and hire somebody from somewhere who’s a lot better and knows what he’s doing. I can hardly wait!

Congrats to Murray. For me his best game was against the best defense and best team in the SEC and NCAA…Bama…absent his two best and most experienced WRs…with an Oline in the make and TBs in the make.
12 Ws…what was the name of the Ahole who said he was not a big game player. Most of us think that if you play in the SEC, those are all big games. Think not, they tell me what the SEC EAST record in the bowls are.

One of the most significant ways AM has improved in 2012 is his ability to turn around a slow start. The three INTS against FU in the first half, and the two early INTS yesterday (as well as some poor throws due to accuracy) followed by puttting some difficult throws on the money is the sign of a guy who is supremely confident and has learned to trust his talent/preparation. Nebraska’s # 1 pass defense may have been inflated by playing a schedule that did not include great passers, but man that was a dropped pass from being a 6 TD pass performance and a 200 QB rating. That would be impressive against the scout team of many schools, and he did it without the three best receivers in the game and after a month’s layoff. Hard to believe that less than three months ago a vocal portion of the UGA fanbase was skewering him on message boards while others of their ilk were egging his house and calling for a replacement.

Conley’s first TD pass was one of the most impressive deep bombs I’ve seen anyone make all season. Murray has been a joy to watch this year

Nebraska bloggers were very impressed with Murray’s accuracy on those throws. For the record, he’s always been an accurate deep passer. Remember how often Stafford missed them…like, almost always?

Yeah, but after he’d miss five throws in a row, Stafford would rifle one in in tight double coverage that only his receiver could catch. We’re talking about a three inch window. I get the arguments that Stafford has never quite become an elite QB, but he’s always been able to do things that even truly elite QBs can’t. He just doesn’t do them consistently enough.

Stafford would throw great deep balls when leaning sideways and throwing across his body off his back leg. Otherwise he was not such a good deep ball guy.

The ridiculous thing about Stafford was the velocity he could get on the ball. I’m sure he made plenty of poor deep throws, but most of my memories of his incompletes are from when he would bee-line the ball somewhere it really shouldn’t have been able to go and the receiver was caught by surprise.

That brings up an interesting point. Our WRs as a group have improved dramatically since Coach Ball took over. They run better routes and don’t drop so many. Stafford had Mo Mass and Durham. Yesterday – and all season for that matter – Murray has been able to spread the ball to 6 or 7 guys. I shudder to think what we would have done 5 years ago had 3 of our top 4 receivers gone down.

Murray is quite simply the best QB to ever play at UGA. Disagree if you want, but that kid is a BALLER! Please come back next year! He has always worked behind a patchwork line and new running backs, but he continues to put up xbox numbers. Next year he would have a returning OL, most of the WR, and all the RB’s. It could really be special…not that it hasn’t been already. What he did yesterday on 3rd down was crazy good. Don’t forget we were missing MM, and MB X2! I hate that TK dropped that last pass (for TK and Aaron). Just incredible!

Crowell and Gurshall may have been new, but they weren’t bad. There are many QBs around who hope to have freshman RBs (or any other class RB) that good. And this year’s patchwork line turned out to be pretty good. But I agree that AM is a special player.

History has not been kind to QBs coming back for one final go, at least not with respect to their NFL experience. I am not sure at this point how an additional year helps Murray at the next level. I’d love to see him back, but I would not blame him at all for moving on.

Disagree. History may have been unkind to some presumed #1 picks (Leinhart, Barkley MAYBE, who else? – compare that to RGIII, Matt Ryan, Geno Smith), but Murray isn’t going #1 from what I’ve seen. I think (another) killer year next year allows him to build more buzz around his stock and accomplish some goals he hasn’t yet finished (Heisman, SEC records, MNC). I certainly wouldn’t blame him for leaving, but everything I’ve seen has him second round or lower. I think he’d be making a mistake, personally. Would you forego the chance to accomplish those goals to make now what you could make in 12 months? His family isn’t detitute from what I’ve seen. Stafford was a slam dunk #1. Murray isn’t a lock to go in the second round. What’s the rush?

Touché. I did see that and had it in mind when I made my comment, but with all due respect to Tony Dungy, he won’t be picking on draft day. And will none of the other guys predicting will be either, there seems to be an overwhelming consensus he won’t be a first rounder much less the first QB off the board. Not trying to knock Aaron because I love him (I’ve defended him on here plenty). Dummy’s comment seemed like a spur of the moment feel good remark. GMs don’t typically draft 6′ QBs in the first round. They just don’t. And I don’t think there’s enough buzz around Aaron right now for that to happen. I think if he plays one more year in Athens and totally cleans house next year (SEC, MNC, Heisman, records), he can work his way into being the unquestioned #1 QB (or at least unquestionably a first rounder). I’m just speculating obviously.

Murray is a machine at hitting different receivers…Kris Durham is a fine example 2006 / 8 recepitions, 2007 / 11 rec’s, 2008 / 13 rec’s, 2010 / 32rec’s…drafted in the 4th round…been watching Murray for a very long time and he always has spread the ball around, contrary to some’s belief, he doesn’t look for a favorite receiver, he has always trusted whomever was on the field and will hit the open receiver, even there has been some drops…holds nothing against anyone and will keep going back to a receiver reguardless…all he does is to keep reloading and finding the open man…saw him do in pee wee, HS, and now college…I have no doubt that he’ll work harder than everyone and show his stuff at the next level…Snake out
