Gotta love this quote from Aaron Murray on why he’s coming back:
“I know that coming back I’m not going to have any regrets,” Murray said. “I felt if I did decide to leave I would always have the regret maybe of what could have been, what might have happened if I stayed one more year. I didn’t want to live like that. I really wanted to give one more go-round.”

I know he will give it his all and the offense is glad to have him back. Swann and the juniors will need to step up our defense so he has a championship as one of his memories.

As someone commented on another Dawgsite: “When [Murray] looks back on his autumn of 2013 many years hence, how would he weigh a decision to start making big time $ (and probably holding a clipboard most of the time) a year sooner than he would have otherwise vs. a year as The Man in one of the storied CFB programs on a beautiful campus in a great college town?”
I mean, really, man. How bad can life as BMOC in Athens, Georgia really be? I made nowhere near the $ in my college days that I do now, but I can’t say that my quality of life was any worse, and, Hell, I didn’t even play football!

I’m really grateful to Murray that he decided to stay but I can’t help but get the feeling it would’ve been in his best interests to leave this year. The QB class this year is weak and Georgia’s most likely going to take a step back next year due to a rebuilding defense and a tougher schedule.

I’m really grateful to Murray that he decided to stay but I can’t help but get the feeling it is in Eddie Lacy’s best interests to leave this year. The running back class is weak, and TJ will be strong next year, plus Bama will have about 6 other studs standing in line to run the ball.

McCarron’s good. But given the time in the pocket he has to pick receivers, there are a lot of QB’s who could have dwarfed his numbers, IMO. Aaron is one of them.

Aaron made a comment (as did a WHOLE lot of people) about AJ’s gifrlfriend (AM’s was about getting her to becmoe a UGA fan and AJ retorted with something to the effect of “You have to win more.”

I’m most excited about his comments about running more. I thought that was the difference in the bowl. He’s excellent throwing on the run, and he bought time a lot vs. Nebraska. If he can pick up first downs and use his legs to buy time next year…watch out.

I thought that after the first half of the Ole Miss game he did a MUCH better job of stepping up in the pocket to avoid the sack–that will help against the Clowneys of the world. They also ran a few more plays with rollouts later in the year too, and if he can learn to use more than one-third of the field on those plays he’ll be even more lethal.

Aaron’s being diplomatic when he says it was his choice to concentrate on staying in the pocket. He ran a lot, and successfully, in HS. The coaches reigned him in about 3 games into his frosh year. However, I hope he speaks for the coaches, too. When somebody that can throw for 47 thousand yards is a threat to run, too, it’s all good.

It is his decision. Always like it when a player plays out his commitment. Coaches and University made a commitment to them for four years. Juniors wanting to leave early always give coaches roster management issues. But it gives recruits and underclassman a huge opportunity.

Don’t forget scholarships are on a year to year basis. They are not 4 year obligations. Richt and UGA just choose to honor them as 4 year deals unless a player breaks the rules.

If he shows the ability to make plays when the pocket starts to crumble, he’ll elevate his draft stock significantly. It’s the one major question mark the pros have. Not saying it’s a fair question mark, just the one thing the NFL increasingly values in its QBs.
And it would make the offense obscenely difficult to stop. What adverb can you use to describe a level of performance next year potentially exceeding this years?

If Aaron Murray can show some ability to run and scramble, that will make up for his lack of height.
He needs this next season to show he can be a starting QB in the pros.
