Grantham’s badge of honor?

Seth Emerson provides an interesting twist on the dawg that isn’t barking re:  the Eagles’ defensive coordinator job.

… It still bears noting that Georgia has not released anything from Grantham saying that he’s staying at UGA, because in the past that’s what they’ve done. In fact, it’s what happened last year, when the rumors weren’t as hot as this one. That’s either because Grantham isn’t out of the running for the job yet – or Grantham and the Bulldogs believe it’s good for recruiting purposes for it to look like he’s under consideration for an NFL gig[Emphasis added.]

Okay, it’s not exactly the equivalent of waiving around a Super Bowl ring, and it does have a certain turning-lemons-into-lemonade flavor to it but I can’t say there isn’t some element of plausibility to that explanation.

Maybe he isn’t really considered and they are just rumors?

I think the possibility of him leaving would be a negative with current recruits.

We don’t really know what they’re telling recruits. If Grantham is telling recruits that the Eagles really want him, but he’s staying at UGA, then it would be a positive. But you are correct if he’s recruiting and telling recruits that he might be leaving for the NFL.

They can’t drag it out for 3 more weeks. If they do and he leaves it will really look bad for us with the recruits.

Going to have to go w/ Occam’s Razor. He’s still in the running in Philly.

Has anyone stopped to consider if CTG wants to go back to the NFL and be a DC.? Were there any NFL teams pursuing him at Dallas and asking “Hey Todd, how bout being our DC?” He comes to Georgia and in three years he is ready to carry an NFL D to the promised land? Texas A&M’s coach is having to beat off offers with a stick! Wasn’t he the lowest paid coach in the SEC a year ago? Didn’t Auburn have a head coach that hung on to the jersey of a great qb for a season? Losing 12 starters on the D side of the ball may induce a gambler to cash his chips and make some good money while he can. But it looks like CTG is pretty well compensated already. This looks like much to do about nothing. I wonder just how long this trend of pursuing the next great coach is gonna last? I guess SOD is loving it though.

First I have questions – did Philly run a 4-3 and did Kelly use a 4-3 at Oregon? If the answers are yes and yes, then I strongly doubt CTG would be moving on to Chip Kelly’s staff. Perhaps the transition from 4-3 to 3-4 isn’t as dramatic in the nfl, but one would have to think Philly fans aren’t going to be patient during a transition period. I get the impression Philly fans think they are getting a few tweeks from better coaching to become a winner, not a total rebuilding program requiring new personnel and implemented over a couple seasons. Dawg fans know all too well the 3-4 requires a top NT and at least one dominant pass rushing LB.

The Philly team I saw last season needs more than a few tweaks.

Bingo! Cobb Dawg will please come to the front to collect your winnings! Philly runs a 4-3… does it matter what D Kelly ran in college? Philly is not the picture of defensive health. Their line backing core is marginal. No blitzing OLB’s there. You run a 3-4 at Philly be prepared to harvest 5 D players from your 7 pick draft. You think Kelly is giving that up? Think Arkansas motorcycle jock here. Pat’s sold out to that pass happy O( 2-1 pass vs run) but the Raven’s 3-4 shut it down. Nope. CTG made his bones with the 3-4. Will he ride the wave at GEORGIA or start all over? Yeah… that’s what I thought.
