The man who ostensibly heads the most dysfunctional legislative body in the country thinks his peers are just the folks to take on another dysfunctional bunch.
Tuesday, Mr. Reid raised that case in order to make his point: The NCAA demands more oversight.
“Jerry Tarkanian made it into the basketball hall of fame,” Mr. Reid said, The Hill reported. “Why didn’t he get in earlier? Because this courageous man took on the NCAA, which has absolute control over college athletes. I would hope as the years go by that we, as a Congress, will take a look at that more closely.”
Gosh, that’s bound to end well.

God-complex much?!

Eh, I don’t think Jerry Tarkanian is a good choice for poster child to fix the NCAA. Even Mark Emmert could deflect that one.

He’d probably rather gamble with Tarkanian.

Signaling value maybe? At worst, I’d say get ready for some oversight hearings. But new legislation? That’d be an immense luxury project, and Congress can’t get the basic stuff done at the moment. Even if it gets proposed, you can very effectively lobby yourself out of meaningful regulation (see Dodd-Frank), and flagship state institutions have natural lobbying channels to reps & senators. Am I the only one who’d enjoy seeing Mark Emmert have to justify himself before Carl Levin?

I would like to see him explain himself to Levin. No legislative solution is likely to pass, though, because our own Senator Blutarsky will filibuster it, a la Rand Paul…

This, from the folks who brought us sequester. That’s who we want reviewing the NCAA? Those clowns can’t manage the TSA.

I don’t like clowns either, but they’re a big step up from Reid and his bunch of freaks.

Jerry Tarkanian? Did he really say that?

I’m okay with Senate oversight.
As long as it comes with NCAA Infractions Committee oversight of Senate Ethics(tm).

“The time has come for us to outlaw prostitution,” Reid said in his biennial address to the Nevada legislature and an audience that included a legal brothel owner, legal prostitutes and the legal industry’s state lobbyist.
