Jimmy Williamson’s boys crack another case wide open.
Freshman defensive tackle John Atkins, a 6-foot-4, 322-pound Thomson, Ga. native, was on his way to the Georgia Driver’s License office in Thomson for a 4:30 p.m. appointment to take care of an issue with his license when he was arrested by UGA police. He was booked into the Athens-Clarke County jail at 3:32 p.m. on charges of failure to have a license and seat belt violation. He was released at 4:07 p.m. on a bond of $1,000.
Atkins was meeting his mother so that he could obtain the required birth certificate and social security card to resolve the issue, according to Georgia Sports Communications.
I think I’m now in favor of building an indoor practice facility – as long as they put it some place other than Athens in the summer.
Oh, and in case you’re wondering…
“I am aware of the situation involving John Atkins, and the discipline will be handled internally. It will not involve any playing time,” head coach Mark Richt said in a statement.

My bride got pulled over while driving With a seat belt. I was reaching in the back seat with my seat belt unattached. Since I am an adult I received the ticket. I think it cost me $75 bucks. The officer told me I could come back to Clayton and contest it. I told him that I lived in Athens and probably would not take advantage of the opportunity. Then I thanked him and told him I would be glad when this recession was over. He did not respond.

UGA cops pulled me over a couple years ago for not wearing a seat belt and the guy actually cited me. It was within his rights of course, but this all happened literally right as I was pulling out of my neighborhood and the total fine was 15 bucks I believe,

Chip Towers posted an editorial about how neither he nor the UGA and ACCPD are out to get players. He stated that in Georgia driving without a license is an automatic booking. I don’t know if it’s true, but that’s what he said.
Of course, cops always have leeway in whether they want to enforce the law or not.

I don’t think it’s true. Several years ago, I pulled through a DUI checkpoint a couple of days after my birthday. I didn’t know my license had expired. The cop wouldn’t let me leave. But, he did allow me to call someone to come and give me a ride. The other cops at the checkpoint couldn’t believe he didn’t just tell me to renew my license and let me go.
Of course, my friends came, drove my car over the hill until I was out of sight of Barney Fife, and then got out of the car and let me drive home.
It’s a shame that badges don’t come with brains.

This is very simple. President Moorehead is Williamson’s boss. Direct Williamson to use better judgement in wasting taxpayers $$.. Give this type offender a ticket, take the keys, & tow the car. Let the offender call a licensed driver to come drive the car. Better, fire Williamson & hire someone with better sense. We all need to realize that this is a result of Mikey Adams policies.

That is absolutely the main point. Nobody I know has ever been arrested and required to post bond for this type of offense. I guess not having a valid license means they can do that (usually the license is the bond) but good grief this is ridiculous. Tickets are enough of a hassle.
Oh, and as a middle aged white guy I was stopped, a few years ago in the road that surrounds the Ramsey Center. This was mid-afternoon in the summer and I didn’t have my seat belt on and it was a road block kind of thing – they were stopping everyone. Officer asked me why I wasn’t buckled and I told him I had just left Ramsey and just hadn’t buckled yet. He let me go. But then I know Jedi mind tricks. 🙂

Please try to keep up. The Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity has been suspended at uT. The result of which has lead to the use of bagged wine being outlawed at all Pike houses. Had a patient last week that is both a former player and brother of a current football player (that should narrow it down quite well). He stated as a matter-of-fact that the athletic association’s unwillingness to donate AA dollars to local police authorities has resulted in targeting of UGA athletes.

I was hauled in by Detective Williamson back in my days at UGA. Luckily I was innocent. Dude wore a leather trench coat. Nuf said. I’d call him something derogatory but I’m sure he’s tapped into my phone records NSA style and his leather trench coat wearing ass would be water boarding me by midnight. He is a DB of the first degree.

Ya’ll can thank the brainiacs in our legislature for this, too. When I renewed the driver’s license I’ve had for an inordinate number of years in November, I had to go and buy a copy of my birth certificate, bring written proof of my residence, and proof of SS number. I remember when you could renew in three minutes at Kroger!

I’m no defender of the yahoos in the General Assembly, but the drivers license hassle is not their fault. The new procedure is part of a national security plan to improve the security of Georgia’s drivers licenses and ID cards as mandated by the Federal Real ID Act of 2005 administered by Homeland Security.

That’s a little bit of baloney there. While there is such a Federal Act, about half the states have refused to comply with it because it is unduly burdensome. Feds really can’t control driver’s license administration. The act mainly says if you want to use a DL as a Federal ID, you have to have these procedures, but in fact, none of the states refusing to comply are having any problems. Arguably, the act signed by GWB in 2005 is more about hassling illegal Hispanics than anything else, and Georgia decided to join in on that. So, in order to hassle Hispanics, the yahoos in the General Assembly decided it was worth it to hassle everyone else. They are f*cking idjits, plain and simple. I am just glad I am good through 2019.

Amen. Also, a lot of older African Amerucan folks in the country were born back when Arican American birth records were not accurately kept and men and women have been driving for years with drivers lisenses with names spelled differently from their birth certificates from the 1930s,
1940s and 1950s. They have to go to court to get a name change order to change their BCs to renew their licenses. Costs these folks over $1000 to renew their licenses.
If white folk in Johns Creek had to spend that money to renew licenses the law would be repealed pronto.

I’m on the same page in regards to Willamson, he and his staff are a bunch of clowns as far as I’m concerned. But aren’t we at the point with all of these drivers license issues over the years where Richt just has to say enough is enough. I mean how hard is it to make every player personally show him their license? And if they don’t have a valid one then haul them in a van over to the DMV himself?
