Help a Jacket out.

Wes Durham is leaving Georgia Tech after almost two decades and the search is now on for the next Voice of the Jackets.  Any suggestions?

Perhaps the robot from Lost in Space and one of the goonies for the color. Both would be voices and characters gtu can relate to and cherish for years to come.

In all seriousness, I always thought Wes was a pretty good play by play guy and, except for being tainted by his previous association, one I would have enjoyed hearing in the UGA broadcast booth.

Dang, I really am getting positively ancient. There’s now way Wes has been doing play by play for eighteen years. I still remember Al Ciraldo. It doesn’t seem like it’s been that long since Durham took over. I still think of him as the new guy. I guess that makes me the old guy.

I am actually a fan of Steak, in addition to Chris and Nick. Their departure from morning AM radio meaning there is no one left to listen to. The other option blows in my opinion. I hope they resurface soon on Atlanta airwaves.

Reggie Ball, although I can already imagine the problems that could create.

“Ok, Reggie, we will go live on the count of 3. 1….2….3 uh, Reggie, go ahead!”

“Is that the order? Well I’ll be damned!”

I think Reggie needs to be the guy on the field. “Let’s go down to the field. Reggie, what you got?” and lord knows what would come out of Reggie’s mouth.

A guy can only take so much of that, any other option would be preferable. You work all your life and you end up with a HS offense and having to kiss up to a prick like PJ. Who could blame him?

I think I could do it. I don’t have much experience calling games, but hell, they don’t have much experience winning them, so it should work out.

Wow. Durham was the one thing I liked about that school on North Ave. I would suggest Carl Sagan if he is still alive.

If Durham wasn’t previously with Tech I would suggest he replace the current voice of the Dawgs.

I don’t think anyone at Tech really cares who they get so long as the broadcast is in Klingon.

Sadly, Ricardo Montalban passed away or we would get a memorable play call of Gurley going off right tackle for a TD:

Khan: “He tasks me! He tasks me, and I shall have him! I’ll chase him round the Moons of Nibia, and round the Antares Maelstrom, and round Perdition’s flames before I give him up! Prepare to alter course!”

And down to the sideline interview with Fish Fry: “Khhhhhannnnnnn!”

Wes Durham is a great talent in the booth and no offence to Scott Howard, I for one thought when Munson stepped down, we should just take Wes from them!

is the Great Googly Moogly guy from the Marietta Toyota commercials available? Because, frankly, I doubt anyone would even notice a difference in the pacing and volume of the commentary.

I’ll second the comments about how UGA should have gotten Durham. He is truly a great play-by-play guy. One of the best I’ve ever heard. I’m sorry, but Howard just isn’t very good at all. For a couple of years I thought he was getting a little bit better but last year he seemed to regress. He has no concept of calling the game in terms of space, location, or time. And that’s always been a mystery to me – he’s a great B-ball guy and that’s a faster pace. I just don’t get it. I think the voice of the Dawgs should be someone that can call a decent football game. So…that’s my 2 cents.
