I guess one way to look at the announcement out of Auburn that Kiehl Frazier has “voluntarily” decided to switch from quarterback to safety is that there aren’t many programs that could win a national championship in the midst of having two highly rated quarterback recruits totally flame out.
On the other hand, given the way the last two years have gone on the Plains, it’s probably not something Malzahn wants to make into a habit.

“Marshall was a quarterback in high school, but he signed with Georgia in 2011 as a cornerback. The dual-threat star ended up at Garden City (Kan.) Community College, which allowed him to stay at his natural position.” The author sort of soft balled the whole part about getting kicked off the team.

If Marshall gets the starting nod, there will be two former UGA players starting at QB for other SEC teams. That could make for an interesting sales pitch on the recruiting trail.

Interesting sales pitch for whom? For UGA, that all of our guys are beloved by everyone else? Or for others, who can say that UGA bailed on these guys and that “we’ll stick with you.”

They also fail to mention that the reason he went to CB and not QB in Athens was because he wanted to play basketball as well, being a highly rated PG/SG prospect out of high school (on some national top 150 lists). He felt playing QB when you’d miss so much time working on hoops was just not a good idea.

Not to mention, he stated himself that he was told he would see the field a lot sooner in the defensive backfield. We already had our QB for the next few years.

They’re really high on the true freshman. If Malzahn sees 2013 as a transitional season, it may be worth starting him and taking a few lumps to get him up to speed for the long haul.

Maryland had so many QB injuries last year they had to put a MLB in the spot for a few games.

The news has certainly not been encouraging on Lemay. I remember when we signed him thinking he was going to be a solid contributor for the Dawgs. Hate to see that because I thought he got a bad deal on that HS situation in Charlotte and seems to be a fine young man. Based on progress to date, and considering how long he has had to demonstrate his abilities, it is not looking promising for him with what we have available now, and for the next few years. If not at QB, I hope he finds the field some way at UGA.
