Evidently none of which involved five million large ones. Guaranteed.

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
Not to mention the road to a conference championship is less challenging in the ACC than the SEC. Three legitimate contenders, vs how many in the SEC? Who played in their title game? That perennial powerhouse……….. Duke!

We all love Jarvis. But, “We had the top defense and coach Grantham and his staff was the reason why.” Top of what? Athens? State of Georgia?
Grantham’s best defense finished something like 5th or 6th in the SEC overall. For so many reasons, I’m just very glad he’s gone. He was taking us down the toilet, IMO. And fast.
Now we have a chance to right the ship.

A fly on the wall during Grantham’s version of “The Decision” …
Let me think about this … five million large to (1) work for a guy that surely ain’t gonna get on my case about holding his opponents to less that 40 points because his ego, regarding being able to score on any team at will, will always win out over statistics … (2) We’ll basically be playing against lower quality opponents week-in and week-out and it would be an easier road to the conference championship and national playoff … which leads to the “real” reason that I think I should take the job … (3) Man this new gig could really pad my resume so I can finally get back into the NFL circles and hopefully become the Dallas Cowboy’s head coach!

Senator, you’re just gonna let this part go?
“Grantham inherits a defense that loses seven starters, including five in the front seven, both safeties and the leading pass rusher from the 2013 season. Louisville has to replace …………
“That’s part of coaching,” Grantham said. “That’s why it’s important to recruit and develop players. We’ll work with the players we have. Everyone is kind of new right now. Everyone will get a chance. We’ll evaluate everyone and give them a chance to compete for a starting job.”

Noticed that; but my favorite part was the switching from a 4-3 to a 3-4. Petrino will be pulling his ginger locks out…

Love how both the author of the article and Grantham totally ignore 2010 and 2013. So, Grantham was only here for 4 years and they’re ignoring literally half of his résumé because they want to portray him a certain way. Weird.
He never recruited a top DB, he left us no depth at ILB, and the pass defense last year was by far the worst I’ve seen at Georgia. Statistically, it was the worst defense in school history. And they just want to talk about 2012.

That’s because he no longer works for UGA.

Did you guys catch the dig about the “athletcics administration’s support for the program” and the Louisville AD being “one of the best in the country”….? At least Grantham knows the right things to say to diss UGA’s program. Hammer meet nail.

His chances for a National Championship here would have been pretty good if he had done his job half as well as his offensive coordinator compadre.

Gosh, now I am sorry he left…really, we were that good and everybody loved him, too…they ate BBQ together and all…guess all that arm-waving on third down was from the sauce being to fucking hot.
Todd Grantham…all hat and no cattle. And he winds up his foray into college coaching at a basketball school. In the ACC.

His players loved playing for him… That seems to be more than Willie Martinez could say. I need to try to separate my feelings about his parting comments from a good assessment of the mans job. That’s not that hard, actually andant of you nailed it above. Great with players, motivation, and attitude. Not so good at conveying an overly complicated scheme and fundamentals. Let them say what they want..his defenses may be good enough to win in the ACC, but the stats will be interesting.

Not so sure about this…..some did, but not a lot of good things coming out of the current roster.

Yeah, but that’s a recent problem.. I’m not giving Grantham a pass.. quite the opposite.. but as the Senator mentioned in a post, he never lost his players. Willie did. I think there might have been some doubts after this last season, but I don’t think he ever ‘lost’ them.

Grantham could recruit and develop individual talent. He could also motivate his players. But the job of a defensive coordinator is to stop the other team’s offense from scoring points and in that regard Grantham sucked, hence why he will always be regarded as a mediocre at best DC.

If the guy could have ever learned to defend the spread option against teams that had talent on offense, we probably wouldn’t be having this conversation. I would have been willing to give Grantham a pass if it had just been youth in the secondary, but players weren’t fundamentally sound. No one seems to hold him accountable for the underperforming defense of 2012. That defense had the talent to be the best ever to put on the red and black, but, honestly, they weren’t coached to their potential.

“Todd Grantham had his reasons”. Yup. As in, not wanting to get fired after 2014, which is exactly what would have happened.

Anybody think Grantham will be fine in the ACC – until Clempson, FSU, and maybe Va tech comes around?

The article makes it sound like he had to replace Houston when he arrived. When he arrived he had Houston and his defense still sucked. Now they are trying to make his first miserable season as DC disappear.
