Welcome to the big leagues, son.

Pretty entertaining stuff from early enrollee Jacob Park on Georgia’s dreaded mat drills:

On mat drills …

“I never really had that many coaches yelling at me at the same time. We had something similar in high school we had to go through, conditioning and things like that just to be on the team. But it was a little different. We didn’t do it at 5 in the morning. So it’s a little bit of a shock.”

On possibly second-guessing decision to come early because of mat drills …

“Definitely. I didn’t know anything about mat drills. Nobody told me ’tils I got here. Bryce told me I was going regret coming here early.”

Just remember your Nietzsche, man.

UPDATE:  On a related strength and conditioning note, Georgia’s hired a new coach for the S&C staff.  One interesting bit about the hire…

Boy does this recent string of hires seem to be awesome to me. I don’t have any idea of who Felder is but it sure seems to me that the hires have been made with a purpose in mind, to correct previous deficiencies. I sure hope they’re all as good as they sound.

I’m sure Felder will do a better job here than he did with the Eagles but if they were serious about straight armbars, why couldn’t they get Ronda Rousey

At least the new S&C coach has a background in this area, instead of video coordination.

It sounds like Felder’s job is to “develop the players doing MMA circuit drills until they puke rainbow colors program”.

I’ve done a lot of fighter style conditioning workouts, and believe me, they will grind you up.

Maybe we can get our OL playing like they’re tough and in shape instead of slow and apathetic.

Though Andrews is pretty tough and Kublanow looks to be pretty tough as well… I’m not sure we’re going to be much worse off on the OL. Burnette may be hard to replace, but Kublanow will be a big improvement over Dallas Lee.

If only we had a former player who was also a MMA winner who could talk about the benefits of this…
