Shorter Matt Hayes:  For Nick Saban, the 10-second substitution proposal is strictly a matter of player safety, because… well, Nick Saban.

      Matt Hayes is the same guy who thought Lane Kiffin would be a gift to college football after he was fired but the Raiders. Then, he acted like he never had such a thought when things fell apart at Tennessee. He is why I don’t read the Sporting News. Any organization that pays him has to be desperate for talent.

    The hurry-up-line-up-sit-and-wait-for-a-call offense (HULUSAWFAC?) gives the offensive coaches far more control over the game while simultaneously limiting defensive coaching. And for a control freak like Nick, that has to burn – sitting there on the sidelines, knowing the opposing offensive staff is finding the optimum play call against the personnel he can’t get off the field – and he can’t do anything about it.

    In effect, the offensive coach is out there on the field with the team, whlle the defensive coach sits there as much as a bystander as the rest of us. And if that continues, Nick’s going to kill someone. So yes, player safety is at least tangentially involved here.

    To believe that Saban is the puppeteer behind this awful rules proposal (one more time: it’s not going to pass) means you must also believe that Saban, with every possible advantage already in his possession, would be deliberately deceitful to gain another.

    Pretty much sums it up right there.
