A little nosh for you…
- Kevin Sumlin says TAMU’s spring football game is worthless for his team.
- Here’s a look at who’s in the mix to start at quarterback in Clemson’s opener against Georgia.
- John Infante suggests that Mark Cuban take on AAU ball instead of the NCAA.
- Greg McGarity, on piped-in music at Sanford Stadium: “…we have an opportunity to do certain things that will get our crowd excited in a proactive manner, rather than in a reactive manner.” I have no idea what that means.
- Michael Elkon has an intriguing look at how the unionization effort by the Northwestern players might impact college football transfer rules.
- Nick Saban says he’s powerless to remove an injured player on the field playing a HUNH offense (”So you can’t do anything. You’ve got to call timeout to get a guy out. And if you tell a guy to get down, that’s really against the rules, and they boo him out of the park.”). Mark Lewis, the NCAA’s executive vice president for championships and alliances, emphasized that an injury timeout already exists. Good to see everyone’s on the same page.
- With Gary Pinkel’s latest raise, nine SEC head coaches make more than $3 million per year.
- Athlon ranks the 10 best SEC quarterbacks of the BCS era.

It means they won’t take requests.

Bert makes over $ 5 mill? And the Arkansas AD is supposed to be doing great????

Part of that sum is the payment Arkansas made towards the Wisconsin buyout. But even taking that out, Bielema makes north of $3 million/year.

Well, he did take Wisconsin to 3 straight Rose Bowls. While it’s not #esseeesee, it’s kinda big deal.
Still, he’s a fine representative for Arkies and an even better coach (to coach against).

McGarity should look into allowing the fans to sing karaoke.

Stafford at 18? I’d rank him below Aaron, but he was a #1 draft pick. Jeebus, Athlon, review your process.

He never had the same team attitude as Murray or Greene.

I’ve never understood that criticism of Matt. Do you say that because he left after his third season?
If anything, I thought his biggest problem was that sometimes he cared too much and made bad decisions as a result.

Totally agree.
Me either. And Matt was better than some on that top 10 list .. as a QB, not just a thrower.

Sports flash- there has been a rare and unprecedented acquisition: After a hostile take over Spence Hays is pushed out at Athlon Sports. Sources in the know cite the utter buffoonery of a recent Braden Gall article listing top SEC qb’s during the BCS era. In his article he lists Causey Clausen one spot behind Matthew Stafford. You can’t make this shit up Sports Fans. Gall was fired but has landed at AJC. The Senator has taken over the reins at Athlon to instill some stability and sports authority there. Sports world breathes a collective sigh of relief. There could be more unheavel as the Dawg (There will be Blood) Nation question as to why AJ is placed ahead of all SEC record breaker/creator/holder Aaron Murray.
“October 11, 2003: Trailing the Georgia Bulldogs 13-7, Casey Clausen is preparing to hand off just seconds before halftime when he fumbles, with both arms, near the goal line; Georgia safety Sean Jones picks up the ball and races 92 yards for a game-changing touchdown. Clausen proceeds to throw two interceptions in the third quarter, both of which are turned into touchdowns, as Georgia rolls to a 41-14 win, Tennessee’s worst home defeat in nearly a decade. A furious Clausen vows revenge, then remembers that he will be graduating the following spring and will not be able to play Georgia again.
April 25, 2004: The 2004 NFL draft passes without a single team selecting Casey Clausen. He is signed as an undrafted free agent the next day by the Kansas City Chiefs, but a sheepish Lynn Stiles, the Chiefs’ vice president of football operations, later admits that they thought they were actually drafting Rick. “I mean, that guy’s got an SEC championship ring,” Stiles explains.
August 31, 2004: Casey Clausen is waived by the Kansas City Chiefs”

No I understood why he left after his third season, he would have risked too much to stay. From what I read he just did not put the time during the season trying to get better mentally and relied on his arm strength.

Look at Stafford after UK beat the crap out of him. I have no doubt Stafford enjoyed college, but I also have no doubt he gave his all on the field. DGD in my book.

Regarding the piped-in music being proactive, Sanford has never been known as a one of the loudest stadiums in the SEC. Unless it’s a big time game and/or a night game, I’m often surprised how quiet the crowd is on a pivotal 3rd down for the D.
I guess the Mic Man yelling “defense” is not enough for some to show some situational football awareness.

If it means what I think it means, I won’t be alone in making sure I’m nowhere near Sanford Stadium when the game starts.

For Pete’s sake, Nick Saban! For the “best coach in America” you sure are whiney little oatmeal creme pie fiend.
I mean, if he’s so great then this can only mean that he’s playing some sort of sandbag psych-ops game with the Aubbie people, right?
Shut your hole and coach em up.

Here you go. You’re familiar with baseball right? They chime in the into to charge, but the crowd says charge. Proactive? Maybe? Ok I tried.

Stafford, maybe Top 10, especially when you have AJ McCarron occupying one of those spots. We have had backup QBs that were better that Claussen. Manziel looks over rated at that level too.
Athlon sliding down the list of credible CFB sources, imo. That list looks more like appeasement and attempting to throw everyone a bone.
