I like Chubb and think he’s a hell of a player. But he doesn’t have Gurley’s explosiveness or speed.
And to be fair, no one else in the country does either.

He’s an upgrade over Gurley in the same way that Joe Cox and Caleb King were an upgrade over Matt Stafford and Knowshon Moreno.

That’s a little harsh. Chubb is easily top 5 in the conference.

It is more than a little Harsh, if Chubb stays healthy he will play on Sundays.

I’m talking about his current talent level versus Gurley’s current talent level. That’s all that matters when we’re talking about current upgrades. His projected or potential talent level a few years down the road is irrelevant.

And I’m talking about his current talent level. Name 4 other running backs in the conference not named Gurley that you’d take over Chubb for next Saturday.

That cuts both ways, you know. Name five QB’s and RB’s from 2009 that are inarguably upgrades over Joe Cox and Caleb King.
And again, I’m not saying he isn’t very good, but Gurley is on another level. It’s ridiculous to compare 95+% of college RBs to him, much less a true freshman who probably doesn’t even know the entire playbook yet.

Perhaps you do not realize that no one thinks that Cox and King were good, whereas most everyone thinks that Chubb is good.

By the way, Cox was 7th in the SEC in passer rating in 2009. King was 9th or 10th in some rushing categories and would’ve had a hard time cracking the top 5 RBs on Alabama’s roster. He played behind Richard Samuel and Ealey for a good bit of the year.

Ah, I forgot we had Ealey in 2009. I thought 2010 was his first year. Fair enough. Substitute Ealey for King in my posts above and my point is still valid. Thanks for clearing that up 🙂

Not dodging anything. I’m not the one that tried to equate Chubb with Daley or King. If you think those two are equivalent to Chubb in any way other than they all wore red jerseys, then I can’t help you. Chubb is vastly superior to either one, and would start at any other conference school today.

The only thing worthy of mention in this stuff is that it identified the lady in the green shirt on the UGA women’s soccer team….she’s only a redshirt fresman. 🙂

Senator: One thing I haven’t read about anywhere is the fact that we are 0-2 this season following an open date. I’ve read how the coaching staff varies the practice routine on these weeks and the players get a 3-day weekend off. I also understand the staff hits the recruiting trail as well. Perhaps in 2015, Richt and the staff might want to treat the off weeks just like a regular practice week. It’s apparent the 2014 routine hasn’t worked out that well for us.

You have to look and see if they changed anything from previous years. The off week has been very good to us with Florida for the last three years.

I would also say that the fact that he is eligible to compete in college football games is a significant advantage for Chubb over Gurley.

The point that was worth reading that has been over looked is the injury to Andrews our center. He was much slower and that led to lack of protection for our an and blocking for our running backs. I am glad the backup will be getting lots of practice this week. They never had trouble with the snap but blocking was an issue. I hope Andrews heals quickly.

Agreed. Seemed to really change things. I really think Kublanow is best equipped to be our center next year, but I guess he hasn’t gotten the reps yet to slide over there right now.

Obviously on a per-touch basis, there’s no comparison. But Chubb does seem to have more stamina, that’s one area I actually would give him a bit of an edge. I have yet to see Chubb look noticeably tired, even when he had 42 touches or whatever it was against Mizzou. Gurley often times looks noticeably tired towards the end of drives. To his credit, he comes back out the next drive ready to roll again. But he does seem to tire more quickly than Chubb. But Gurley’s home run ability is second to none. You don’t need nearly as much endurance for one 80 yard run untouched as you do getting tackled each time after ten 8 yard runs. 🙂

Chubb is a good back who will likely become a great back before he leaves. Gurley is the greatest back in the nation (and should be the Heisman trophy winner but it won’t happen now) and the second best back in Georgia football history. ‘Nuff said.

Pretty sure it was also Chip who tried to troll Coach Richt at the end of his presser today and asked (again) whether Richt was concerned Todd might go pro instead of coming back. Coach Richt basically said, “Why do you keep asking this,” and the presser (mercifully) ended…
