I expected Thompson to get plenty of opportunities to play. But I was hoping one of the young DLs: Hawkins, Young, Barnett, Rivers, or the Ledbetter bros would step up and contribute. Gotta be at least a couple dependable DLs in that batch. Hope to also see some of our backup OLs step up.

Hopefully, the only reasons to stay late into the game on Saturday will be to see the freshmen (true & redshirt) and how long Richt & Schottenheimer keep the QBs in the game especially throwing the ball. I love that we have a couple of games to get the QBs’ legs under them before USCe shows up rather than a high-profile OOC road game.

And hopefully we aren’t too overconfident as to step into the trap that Bama and MSU did by not considering that this is a lesser team not to mess with. I’m hopeful, like you, that we get a chance to see the newbies get after it, but UL-M is on par with the Eagles and deserves our cautious respect. Just a reminder because I know that you already are aware of this team’s ability.

Cojones, I completely agree with you. We can’t take these guys lightly. They aren’t the NE Louisiana of old. I want to see us come out, play well, and take care of business.

Sorry, I should have changed what I meant. I don’t want this game to go into the 2nd half as competitive. I want to be able to enjoy the 2nd half and to see the young guys make some plays and get their feet wet before September 19th.

Our first game opponent should play of an intensity to reveal warts (I’m hoping) so don’t get too excited when the first qtr is over and we aren’t leading. It’s good to have your confidence shaker early as a learning resource, but hopefully with enough time left in the game so as to prevent team fallout. Because of our team strength and depth, we may be laying too much predictability for winning on our team whereas they haven’t gelled yet – and we know how that has played out in the past.
Not being negative, just cautious about what to expect from all the newbies.

The War Hawks are not the walk over that we should overlook. If we play sloppy football (70% chance of rain I believe) and keep them in it, we could be the first upset of the season. I’m channeling Munson again. Just remember a wet field is a speed equalizer. This game is import in the brave new world of the CFP for the amount of style points we can get.
