It’s the early bird that catches the game day post.

Nooners mean early departures for Athens, which means you get my final thoughts sooner than later.

With all the angst and drama of the week, the game today seems almost anticlimactic… but I’m guessing the staff and team don’t feel that way.

It really shouldn’t be like that for us either, though.  It’s not as if there aren’t things to discover today.  I mean, when’s the last time Georgia entered its ninth game of a season where much of the fan base was wondering if the offense would score a touchdown and who would be tapped to start at quarterback? (For the record, I’ll say “yes” and “Brice Ramsey”.)

On paper, the game should be something of a snoozer.  Kentucky, as I noted yesterday, is worse on both offense and defense than Georgia.  It, too, has lost three of its last four games.  It’s best offensive player, Boom Williams, isn’t expected to play.  And Georgia is simply the more talented of the two teams.

But, as the cliché goes, they don’t play the game on paper, and the intangibles for this one are unnerving for the Dawgs.  How will they react when that inevitable “oh, shit” moment comes?  That hasn’t exactly been their strong suit over the last four games.

Maybe that means the real key to today is whether there’s a second quarter meltdown.

I hope Georgia wins and does so in a way that the players can feel good about it.  If nothing else, they deserve that.

Fire away in the comments.

When I think about this game I keep flashing back to George Godsey taking 13 seconds to run 30 yards for a TD as a disinterested UGA team, with a coach in the same spot, give up in the rain.

For me, I’ll be watching to see if the coaching staff has lost the players. Outside of that I’ll be hoping for a win and cheering for the red and black.

  3. Senator, I can’t disagree much with your analysis. Does this team step up and play a complete game like they did against USCe or do the NFL prospects decide it’s time to protect themselves for what’s next? Do the coaches get this team ready to compete or does the apparent off-field dysfunction bleed onto the sideline? Do the fans come out to support the team or do we look for a reason to turn this into a staff hatefest for the afternoon.

I said earlier this week that this is the most important, meaningless game in the Richt era. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Dawgs blow the Cats out or to see a disinterested Georgia team get beat. I think it’s somewhere in between. Dawgs win, 27-16.

That moment will happen. There is so much angst in the fanbase right now.

So the fans are gonna drive, walk, whatever through a heavy rain, get soaked to the skin, then boo the team?

In the words of a great Dawg, gone to his reward, “You Georgia people, you are a tough crowd.”

Scorp, I certainly would not boo the team. I am of the school of thought that 1) these are kids 2) they are not paid 3) they bust their tails giving their blood and sweat for their team. However, I’ve seen and heard our fans boo too many times to think those boos won’t happen again when adversity strikes. On top of this history, the week of angst will lead to more of this today. I don’t like it, but just believe it will occur.

I believe in hope, it is wonderful medicine, but I can think of few things more certain than UGA’s a-hole fans showing their a-holes to whomever is watching this game. It will be excused as them trying to send a message….and it does, but a good one. Most of the fans will act with class but their behavior will not be the discussion. Expect another black eye for UGA from the media’s comments as they overlook the many fans who are standing behind the players and staff trying to get things back on track.

I expect a good effort from everyone on the field. If the OL can be successful, we will look much better on offense and put some space between us and Kentucky. Maybe this will be the day where we see the “old Marshall” getting some opportunities to utilize that explosive speed we remember, that will make the passing game look better whether it be Lambert or Ramsey.

Mac, I suffered through the replays yesterday…Keef can’t cut. He can run straight ahead well, but he either can’t or won’t or does not cut.

I would love to see Marshall have a great game today…for him and for me and thee.

Yes, he hasn’t shown the cutting ability we saw in his first year but claims he has regained that ability. Time to fish or cut bait for him if he has any hope of getting a shot at the NFL. Maybe he will get some room today and gain some confidence. He still goes down too easily on first contact.

      • Dude, I’ll never understand you or anyone of this mindset. The black eye isn’t the fans doing. It’s the team on the field. You know who cheers for everything even when they’re getting their ass whipped? Soccer moms. But please, continue blaming everyone and everything for the shitty producton the field EXCEPT Mark Richt. You’re good a that.

Was thinking about UGA’s record over the big 4 – SC,UT,UF and AU over the last several years. Expected UT to get us this year the way the games have been trending the last few years. Had UF going in our direction for a while with 3 in a row but that’s over now after 2 losses in a row. Success against AU has been good but I feel the same about them as I did about UT. I think they get us this year. SC seems like the only one of the big 4 that UGA may be trending up on. Doesn’t look good for Richt. I do think we win an ugly one today.

Sad to say, until they demonstrate otherwise, I’m expecting a loss. Something along the lines of 17-12 Kentucky. (i don’t expect a TD until they demonstrate otherwise, either.)

I predict a 27-6 type win, in which the CMR backers will be back roaring on Monday that CMR is righting the ship, and he simply needs to be given more time to get us back on top. Oh, all of this is Shotty’s and ADGM fault anyway, so leave CMR alone.

By God, sir…das what I am talking about. Let the fairweather patriots stew in their own ordure.

Go Dawgs, play for your own selves and for those of us who are gonna holler for you no matter the record. GATA.

This is a big, big day for hat selection. This hat has to carry me through the rest of the season, and if fortune shines, to a bowl and beyond.

    I got a black hat. We’ll see.

  15. I have a weird feeling this morning. Like I’ve been transported back to the Goff days. I am resigned to no championships this year and not knowing if we can beat an inferior team. I am in a quiet place of acceptance of a very average team. I thought those days were over. But at noon I will be raising hell pulling for the Dawgs and enjoying watching some football. Hey, it’s all we got right now, so enjoy.

Be very interesting to see the turnout for this game given the weather and the way the season is going. Lower level tix on Stubhub were going for $10 yesterday. 20-25K no shows?
