The Georgia Way’s gonna Georgia Way, y’all.

Either he’s full of shit, or he canned Richt without a plan ready to go on the next man.  Terrific.

The magic words that I was waiting for were ‘search firm’.

The last thread of hope is that this is all about avoiding minority coach lawsuits or something like that. A very thin thread, that one.

Congrats, UGA, you’ve just fired the greatest coach in your school’s history on the heels of possible consecutive 10 win seasons. Eason, go find the school with the best QB coach you can. Pruitt, go find yourself the highest bidder. Best of luck to both of you.

Great article in USA Today about UGA becoming “pushed around” over last 5 – 10 years. One of the few media outlets I’ve seen not whining about Richt being a good man.
Time to move on. I really don’t care who. Tired of the blowouts, no shows, head scratching moves (Bauta, Squib, etc.)

Of course if that plan only included hiring an assistant, then maybe it will be better to do a real search. Again, while Kirby may be a great coach someday, why on earth don’t we go for an established winner? If we are as great as we think we are, the candidates should be beating down the door, right?

I don’t know whether I hope he’s full of shit or telling the truth.

If the search really is wide open, that implies that McGarity’s not locked in on hiring a coordinator who has only worked under a notorious micromanager (i.e., a coordinator who probably doesn’t really run his own unit), which is good.

But by the same token, it would also imply — as you say, Senator — that he fired Richt without having a plan in place.

I strongly suspect that this talk of a “wide open” search is just more empty b.s. from a noted authority on spewing empty b.s.

I don’t know. Kevin Sumlin got to 5 million a year without the benefit of a decent qb. He just wins with or without qbs. You do wonder how he’d do if he had some young phenom at qb. Might beat Alabama in t-town. Who knows?

Kevin sumlin built his career on Johnny football. Beat Alabama in t-town, gave them all they wanted the next year in college station. Without Johnny? They’ve sucked something awful. Yes in the game of football a qb matters. It’s a demonstrable fact. (To be fair, football was probably not part of turd’s distinguished educational career.)

I have no problem with McGarity saying he conducting a wide open national search even if he is really talking to the agents for 2 candidates. It serves no one’s interest to tip hands now. See, for example, the Michigan / Les Miles courtship in 2007. Don’t criticize McGarity on that point.
What worries me is announcing we are hiring a search firm. That is the most uninspired move. Did McGarity not use the time between the Florida game and now to identify who he wants to hire? I hope he did. If he did it is weird to announce he is paying someone because he has not done his homework.

Look, Richt’s gone. I am not fighting that battle any more. What I want is a better coach to replace him and an excellent AD to provide the new guy with the resources to win championship.
Once the coach is in place the focus is on the AD’s role. What McGarity does as a part of the transition shed’s light on whether he is a championship quality AD.

Whomever the new guy is is my coach and your coach. You and I share the goal of him being supported by a top quality AD.

I disagree. While I wouldn’t expect McGarity to be completely transparent about his communications with top prospects, there’s a big difference between keeping one’s cards close to the vest and announcing that there is no plan. Also, by hiring a search firm, that’s just evidence that he’s being truthful that there is no plan. The other possibility is that he’s just wasting money to avoid answering questions.

Well I’ve not posted since the UT loss…yes, I’ve been pouting that long.

GM’s message is not reassuring at all. I agree with some here in that you don’t fire a coach with CMR’s record without a solid plan to hire the person that you have confidence would raise the bar. If CMR is gone because of not winning championships…then you pay the price to make sure you have the staff that would. Why just regurgitate the whole process every 3-5 years?

I don’t know exactly how I feel about the CMR termination. I like the man, but he doesn’t need UGA no more that UGA needs him. He will be fine in the long run as I hope UGA will be. I would like the very first coaching hire to be the savior of the football program. Whether that can happen without more changes to the administration…time will tell.

I do not think Smart is the answer. Just because he is adapt at plugging in Saban’s system doesn’t mean he can run a program. And, I really don’t want to see Pruitt gone. I would like to see a spectacular hire at HC and OC…all other staff intact.

I’ve seen it reported in multiple places that Don Leebern is no longer highly involved in making decisions for the UGA Athletic Department. With that as context:

    (1) Is that true? Has Leebern truly stepped aside and stopped influencing decisions at Butts-Mehre?
    (2) Who are the most influential “behind-the-scenes” people when it comes to telling McGarity what to do?

I’m beginning to be concerned about Morehead. I have written multiple letters in that direction and my donor level is significant(Both to GEEF and to UGA’s general fund) and have had no responses back to letters sent over a year ago as well as recently. Yes, I am/was a Richt supporter, but I can see both sides and I’m moving on from the era of our highest winning percentage coach ever.. So, why can’t you Richt haters see that McGarity’s hires thus far have been total boondoggles and at 5 years he has not been held accountable at all. Look at Stricklin, look at Gymnastics. His handling of the Gurley situation. His scheduling fopah’s (See Southern, La/Monroe and Ga. Southern in the same year), his lack of financial support up until last year and then his unwillingness to allow his changes in money handouts(Forced by Morehead) to work(CMR just was able to pay assistants less than 1 year ago, the recruiting budget moved to comparable SEC school’s budgets, the indoor facility just approved) and on and on………………I think McGarity got pissed over being forced to do some things and decided to show he was in charge. Well, now it is time to stand on your own record GM!

The ONLY successful teams in YOUR terms now are the swimming (Bauerle, a non McGarity hire that McGarity has not supported)teams and the tennis team(Another Non-McGarity hire) and marginally the golf team.
