Today, it’s the daddy of rock and roll car tunes, Chuck Berry.
My problem is that there are two Berry songs that qualify for a MPC. Only solution is to clip them both here.
First, here’s “Maybelline” live, from 1955.
And from a few years later, here he is performing “No Particular Place To Go”.
The man had an… um, interesting stage presence, to say the least.
Feel free to add on any musical driving selections you may have in the comments.
Oy, I’m self employed and I drive an average of 1500 miles/week, so commenting on anything involving driving hits me. I drive a lot, so, I listen a lot. Ranges from Mahler, Mozart to Korn and Pat Metheny and tower of power. (For the record, Metheny is the only “soft jazz” I would ever purchase and/or let anyone hear)
Tower of power is my “gotta stay awake” standard.

Check out John Klemmer for ‘soft jazz’. For some third world jazz, Gato Barbieri is great.

Before categorizing Metheny as “soft jazz,” cue up “Roots of Coincidence.” When he does play relatively soft, it’s far from “smooth jazz” drek. It’s well-written and has great depth.

Swervedriver. I got pulled while listening to Mezcal Head twenty some odd years ago. Since then I always make sure to have on cruise control when listening to them in the car.

Any of the harder tunes from Porcupine Tree. The “Fear of a Blank Planet” album comes to mind. Yes, speeding tickets are a real possibility. Brilliant players.

“Two Lane Blacktop” — Rob Zombie
Also, “Brothers in Arms” by Junkie XL isn’t inherently driving related, but it’s the main chase theme from Mad Max: Fury Road, and it makes navigating traffic on the Interstate feel that much more exciting.

Beat me to it on the “Radar Love” choice. I’ll have to go with “Born to Be Wild” by Steppenwolf.

It’s a shame Berry suffers the fate of a lot of great rock people–his biggest hit is actually a novelty song called “My Dingaling” from the seventies. 😦
Kind of like the way certain people only know Led Zep by “All of My Love.”

Yep, that’s a good one. Glad someone else mentioned Radar Love as well.
I’ll add these two to the mix.
