Christian Payne, for the win.
We actually heard very little about Nicholls State – or just Nicholls, as they prefer to be called – from Smart or the players. That’s because the Colonels have not played yet this season. Turns out their off week was the first week of the season.
“They are fast on defense,” according to fullback Christian Payne. “They have a lot of returning starters and they are a young team. This will be their first game so you know they have spent all fall camp preparing for us. You know they will give their best against us.” [Emphasis added.]
Okay, he let the word “shot” slide, but he’s got a real future in poor mouthing.

UPDATE: Seth Emerson has the big news.
Nicholls State, or Nicholls, or the Colonels, had a bye last week. They went 3-9 last year, falling in their only Power 5-conference game, 48-0 at Colorado.
The upshot: Eighteen starters return, counting the punter and long snapper.
Georgia is doomed, I tells ‘ya.
For any of you who have watched Last Chance U on Netflix, the Ronald Ollie kid (DL that they followed closely) and one other from that team are on Nicholls State now. Be interesting to see how he does.
For any who haven’t watched it, you really need to, very interesting inside look at how football teams work behind the scenes. I have a friend who’s sister is an academic advisor at South Carolina, and she said the show is pretty much spot on of what it’s like trying to herd cats and keep everyone on track.

Great tip, I absolutely loved that series … Did not know Ollie ended up @ Nicholls. I will be looking for #90 (if that’s still his number). I also learned a lot about John Franklin III from that series … Ain’t scared at all of that kid @ Auburn other than his running ability, and he may be playing a lot by the time the Tigers come to Athens this year.

Another legacy from the previous regime. Hopefully, Kirby can change things around so we don’t get every team’s best shot anymore.

Yeah, we don’t want their best shot, but the Dooley style poor-mouthing has to continue. It has become tradition at this point.

Yes we should add a Dooley/Munson award for the best build up of a weak team by a player or coach. After listening to Saban trash his team after that massacre I almost LOL, he was channeling Munson.

I’d love to take everyone’s best shot. If we always get their best shot, then it means that they care and know how important Georgia is. If we’re not getting their best shot, that means they’re overlooking Georgia. And if they’re overlooking Georgia, then things have not been going well for the program.
Now taking a team’s best shot and responding in kind (and winning because your best shot is better) is another thing altogether.

The kid was a steamroller Saturday. If I was Chubb I would give him half of my scholarship. He is a great blocking FB from apparently a bygone era.

It’s ‘Deep Snapper’, as in ‘The finest deep snapper we’ve faced all year’. Everybody knows that.
