Tell me something: who’s more delusional, LSU for putting out feelers to Urban Meyer and Nick Saban regarding its open coaching job, or the Big 12 for believing until a couple of months ago that it could sweet talk Clemson and FSU into joining the conference?

If LSU put out feelers and were told not interested, at least they can say they conducted a search for an experienced head coach. If you’re going to fire a coach with a national championship at your school on his resume, you at least should start there. If your job is one of the best 10 according to everyone, shoot high and see what happens.

Land of hopes and dreams? LSU pursuing a top line coach is best practice. Big 12 pursuing Clemson and FSU, well, that’s just “Land of fruits and nuts.”

…but the Big12 does pay top teams more than their lower tier. FSU has not been happy about the ACC payout.

Don’t understand the knee jerk reaction by Aleva, don’t under stand him anyway, but this will be an interesting search given the timing, talent pool, and Top 10 HC job on the line. May be a young gun. long shot or they may travel the same path by looking at Gundy. Herman will be everyone’s top choice but I think he would pick USC over Baton Rouge. Gonna be fun.

A football program can’t outperform its athletic department, and USC’s athletic department is a running joke. They only hire former USC football players to run the department, and none of them have a clue how to do it. Garrett and Haden were laughably inept. We haven’t seen Swann in action yet, but what in his resume would lead anyone to believe that that he’s any better?
Carroll managed to lift USC for a time, but an inept compliance department and an inept response to the NCAA undermined everything that he built. Every coach before or after has become a punch line.
LSU has reached the top under two consecutive coaches.

I read somewhere that if Herman is able to get Houston in the Big 12 they will give him 5 million. Mighty fertile recruiting ground there – he might be hard to pry away – Houston is a potential monster.

Did you see the stat this weekend that like 90 something% of the players on the team are from like 50 miles of the campus. So yes very fertile recruiting ground.

Your question was rhetorical, but I’m going to answer it anyway. The Big 12 and it’s not all that close! Did they seriously think that FSU or Clemson would jump at the chance to leave a stable (finally!) league where they have they both have a number of natural geographic rivalries, championship pedigree, and the promise of future increases in TV revenue with the advent of the new ACC ESPN network to go into a league with … none of that at all? I’m sure FSU and Clemson fans would love to have to get on an airplane to go to each and every one of their road games just so they could be in a league held together by masking tape where they’d have no traditional rivalries left… for what would probably be at best even money.

Very much disagree with that statement, Nebraska jumped to the Big10 because the Big12 pay outs are not even across the board. FSU has not been happy with ACC payouts. If the Big12 could put together a payout structure where FSU gets revenue comparable to Texas, they could possibly jump.
LSU has Bama expectations without Bama budget, Saban and Urban are not leaving. Jimbo possibly.

Why would Jimbo leave a conference where his only real competition is Clemson (maybe Louisville or Da U), to jump in a division with Alabama?

The Big 12 clearly was more delusional. After all, its not like LSU/LSU football is in danger of folding anytime soon, in which Tiger Stadium is turned into a, say, soccer stadium for MLS.

Looks like the Big 12 is having second thoughts. Herman has to get out of town this year. Nothing to keep him at Houston if Big 12 is off the table.
