Yeah, the 2014 game blew chunks. Although it’s funny nobody can summon up bitter tears specifically over the effing decision to squib kick.
If it were up to me, I’d make ’em all watch the last thirty seconds of regulation until they were in the mood to punch a few walls. Which, when you think about it, shouldn’t take too many viewings.
Argh.

More than the oft-attacked kick, this is why GT got into position. That and the timeout call is where I will put the blame if forced to ignore the lack of defense and two fumbles at the goalline. We always have to assign blame in our society, but narrowing it to 1-2 plays is usually wrong.

Everyone (justifiably) talks about the terrible squib decision, but to me the time out just before their field goal was worse. They were a little rushed on it and it was a career long under tons of pressure, but our TO allowed him time to relax and set it up.
Ugh. about 1,000 things had to go perfectly for them to tie it and they all did. Anyone know our win probability after our TD? Does UGA lead the nation in losing games in which we have a 95% + win probability? We have to, right?

I think I read somewhere that it was a 98% win probability, and no other team that season had lost a game with a win percentage that high in the 4th quarter.

The timeout on 4th and goal was my head scratcher. Let the clock run down to 03 then call your timeout. Make it the last play of the game- win or lose.

That’s a tough decision, but calling the timeout when they did was defensible: If there’s 20-some seconds left, then if Tech commits pass interference on 4th-and-goal, then you have 1st-and-goal with several plays left to score. If there is only 3 seconds left and Tech commits PI on 4th-and-goal, you then only get a single play to score.

Kick the damn ball through the end zone and make them make a play. The squib is never the right play unless the other team has to score a TD and they would have to use the remaining clock to return the kick for the score.

The unsportsman like on McGraw is what set them up, it was not a pooch kick he had to kick from the 20 and had not been kicking good up to that point

And wasn’t there an offsides penalty called on UGA on the kickoff? Gave them 5 more..There are very few kickoffs where the kicking team is not offsides….called selectively. We were offsides, though. But that was a nut-cruncher I’ll not soon forget. There are three…Auburn’s lucky tipped catch…GT’s win in 14, Tennessee’s gift this year..(yeah there’s more..but those are enough to GTP of how little things cause losses..coaching can fix it, by and large, but we’ve had more than our fill).

I think the squib was the final nail in the coffin after the loss to UF. That more than anything sealed Richt’s fate.

I’ve wondered. You know how in tennis we are coached to aim shots at the body of the net player, the idea is to hit them with the ball which ends the point. Wouldn’t a fair tactic for a squib/on sides kick be to have the kicker bean a player with a 60mph line drive kick? I know it’s not relevant to that squib play but it’s just a random question I’ve pondered.

We were at the beach and my wife called just as we took the lead. This year I gave my tickets to a buddy and his son and we went back down to the beach for two weeks. The third day my wife fell and broke her wrist and we had to come back for the surgery. Now I’m here and will have to go hustle a ticket Saturday.

Our best two players each fumbled on the 1 yard line and the head coach squib kicked. Let’s hope we aren’t still bemoaning this Saturday in 2 years.

Had Ray squibbed kicked against Virginia in the peach bowl, maybe he wins his last game. As it was, just after taking the lead, we kicked it deep and they returned it for six.

Squibb kick is the choice of most coaches in that situation, by a long shot, from games I have watched. And that is pro or college. Always wrong to fans, if you lose the game.
