A tale of two signing days?

Here’s hoping I enjoy these Booch vs. Kirby headers as much after the first Wednesday in February comes and goes.

    Gotta give Kirby credit, not only for bringing in such a highly rated class, but also for fighting tooth-and-nail with opposing schools looking to poach the top players in the state. Case in point: not sure if we get Solomon or Williams, but Kirby’s putting up a heckuva fight right down to the wire. On top of that, it appears he’s lined up a few ‘plan B’ options if we don’t land those last few top targets.

    utk hovering around the #10 ranking is our closest competition in the sec east. The feel-good-story-of-the-year is fu, way out in the high 20’s/low 30’s ranking.

      Really want to add Williams, he is a true gamer. I know he wants to take a run at CB/Nickel, but he would be a stronger IMac on STs and offense. Let him try to challenge the taller DBs, but his best usage in both college and the NFL will be PR, slot, and on jet sweeps. Very competitive, plays with that little-man chip on his shoulder and makes plays every time I see him. JW is a difference maker for a team like UGA, seems to be wasted at SC who is too far back to get him into the big games. Local HS player that we didn’t seem to push hard for until 3 weeks ago.

    That Times Free Press article on UT recruiting was off. UT only has five 4 or 5 star commits (not 7), and the class is ranked #13 (not 10), in which their ranking certainly will fall in the coming days. And to drill down a bit further, only 3 of UT’s commits are ranked in the top 200 nationally, with only 1 of those ranked in the top 50. UGA, meanwhile, features 6 recruits ranked in the top 50, with 16 total ranked in the top 200 (with #17 at 204)…all of this with 5 less fewer commits than UT to boot (28 vs. 23).

    UF has gotten all the attention lately regarding their poor recruiting, but UT’s certainly isn’t much better (quality wise its actually worse). Aside from an OL and S commit, there really aren’t any other headliners there — instead a slew of lower rated 3 star types that make up an overwhelming majority of the class.

    Based on ‘on paper’ talent, the gap between UGA and UF…and especially UT is about to become very large.

    Great recruiting is fine, but ya gotta put it to good use. I would bet there was a wide gap between UGA’s recruiting the last 4 years when compared to Vandy’s and Tech’s. You saw how that turned out. Just say’in.
