The times, are they a-changin’?

One little note in this Roll Bama Roll post on Alabama’s (yet again) impressive recruiting class:

Xavier McKinney S Roswell, GA 9 INT (2 pick-6) as a JR. 7 INT, 2 kicks returned for TDs as a SR. The lone Georgia product in this class.

[Emphasis added.]

I know Smart’s gone, so a certain amount of drop off for ‘Bama in this state shouldn’t be a surprise. But one measly Georgia signee in another strong Alabama class?  After all, it’s not as if Jeremy Pruitt wasn’t combing Georgia for kids before he showed up in Tuscaloosa.

Hell, if this keeps up, I may stop caring about seeing Saban’s face at a future Kickoff Classic.

They’ve only gotten something like 12 recruits from Georgia in the past 5 years. I thought it was interesting that they got 7 from Florida this year, the most in years. Maybe the Sunshine State will become their go-to area during times when national recruiting is lagging.

Looks like we’ll be turning away some 4 star kids because we don’t have slots. Who’d a thunk it?

    • Actually, I think we recruited that guy pretty hard but he was an early Bama commit, then de-commit and it looked he was going to Clemson who has pulled LB Tre Lamar (last year) and fellow DB LeAnthony Williams (this year) out of Roswell.

Maybe Aubrey Solomon. He’s on their Big Board too.

Or Michigan, seems little to no confidence that UGA is in the mix. Hard to feel down about this as our cup runneth over. Still, many will exaggerate the importance of this simply because they want every single player out of Georgia. Thought he had soured on Michigan but looks close between Bama/Michigan.

I think it comes back to expectations…you can’t get all 10 kids in the Georgia top 10 because, for example, you aren’t going to sign 3 safeties or 2 QBs. What’s crazy is that UGA didn’t take the two after Bama got theirs…McKinney is a great player and might be the best of the bunch…BUT LeCounte and Gibbs are generally regarded as the better two prospects.

It’s a weird feeling coming into signing day and not having that feeling of ‘our class hangs on getting X, Y, and Z tomorrow’ and not having a safety net.

I agree Fletch. It’s nice not trying to worry about who all of our Plan B signees might be in the event we don’t get our top guy. With few exceptions, we’ve already locked up all of our top guys LOL (assuming they all sign).

  9. On Sunday, I was bored, and looked through the Huntsville paper at the list of schools, that the top players in Alabama are going to.
What is it all these players going to Bama or Auburn. Me, I would want to go out of state, just for a change of scenery. Maybe the bag men are that much better in Alabama.
Get out and see the country.
