“We are getting ran through.”

If Kirby’s doggin’ his defense publicly, it’s because he doesn’t want to be accused of blowing smoke after G-Day goes down.

Throughout the spring, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart has been adamant that the Bulldogs’ defense has not been up to par. On 680 the Fan’s The Front Row Wednesday, Smart was asked if his message to the media is scripted.

“I don’t rehearse anything,” Smart said. “I would say that I try to tell the truth. I try to be honest, because the same thing that I tell the team at the end of practice, is usually what I tell the media. So if it weren’t consistent, then I would believe what you are saying, that I was spinning a message. That is not really the case. I am a pretty honest guy, forthright in telling the truth.”

Cool.  I guess that means we really have grounds for being excited about the offensive line, then.

Smart was then asked if the defense, which returns 10 starters from a group that was tenth in the country in forcing turnovers and 16th in yards allowed and passing yards allowed, is truly not impressing as much as the offense.

“That’s the truth,” Smart said. “We are getting ran through. We are not playing the way we need to. We are not striking blockers, getting off blocks, we are not doing a lot of things right.”

The cause of that, according to Smart, is a combination of three factors.

“It is the offense getting a hat on a hat and blocking the right guys and being physical at the point of attack,” Smart said.

Truth.

Soooo….Kirby fires Rocker (the best assistant on the staff) and now we are having problems with the D “getting ran through.” Ever bother to think about WHY Kirby?

Missing the two starters on the DL. Add a bit more size, and dare I say talent, on the O-line? Yeah, I can see the defense struggling some no matter who the coach was..
I was impressed with the photo of BC the other day. I think it’s safe to say he wasn’t just goofing off during his redshirt season.

until he throws out the Saban response, “getting ran through like, shit through a tin horn,” I ain’t going to worry.

  8. The 2017 Offense might be the best Dawg Offense since Eric Zeir,
Garrison Hearst, & Co. took the field. Good Practice for the Defense.

    • I’d settle happily for the best offense since 2012.

      Wow! Now there’s some optimism.
Personally I’d settle for the Aaron Murray days. That was the best offense I can remember Georgia having and I go back a ways.

      • I’ll take the 2013 offense prior to the afternoon on Knee-land. That offense just took what you gave them and consistently made teams pay. I’m not sure any team has done to an LSU defense what our offense did that day in a long time. We shredded that defense …

      • I recently read where an Expert? stated that If the Dawgs put Nauta
at TE & put Chubb & Michel In the backfield together; They could put
Michel in motion & either Nauta or Michel would be covered by a LB.
This gives the Dawgs a Pass or Run Option on every play.
I decided to take It a little further & list the 2 other skill players.
You could have another TE &/or a Flanker or WR &/or an H Back.
The 2 Players could be Blazevich, &/or Woerner, &/or Godwin,
&/or Mercole Hardman. That led me to some basic conclusions.
1- Eason would be in the Shotgun where he is more effective.
2- The lack of depth at WR would not be a major concern. And:
        3- there would be a Run Or Pass Option on every play;
Michel would still be the “In Motion” Back.
A nightmare scenario for an opposing DC or Defense.
My signature saying for 2017 Is “GO For IT”.

  9. Well there you go. We have a great OL to block for Chubb and protect Eason. Anything less than a appearance in the NC game will be a major disappointment.

Almost 40 years of cross examining hostile witnesses has led me to the conclusion that people who aren’t lying to you don’t actually have to TELL you “I’m trying to be honest here” or “I’m trying to tell the truth” or anything like that. “Trying to be honest” isn’t the same thing as just being honest. Weasel words are usually used by, well……weasels. I’m not accusing anyone of anything, but I can’t say this inspires me about the future.

Is it half full or half empty? Does he have the pocket pair with one on the river, or the bluff? I guess we’ll find out in September.
      Man, it’s gonna be a long off-season

We may or may be not getting ran through, but I’m happy to see a coach express honest disappointment. Fire the mothers up!
