The American Athletic Conference now refers to itself as a “Power Six” conference.

Good luck with that, fellas.

      Players Championship higher on my list than PGA title. I watch the PGA Championship if they are playing a course I particularly like, but it is too close to a regular PGA event in the way it is run for me. I watch if it works for my schedule or can’t get outside, but it is far below the others, imo. (None of this to say the American Conference’s move is viable.)

      I love the Players. It’s the best field in golf hands down, and, yes, that includes the major championships. The stretch of 13-18 may be the best closing holes on the Tour, and that’s with the 17th as a tricked up, made for TV par 3. Throw in the changes to make the 12th a drivable par 4, and you have an exciting closing stretch where anything can happen.

      It’s not the 5th major, but it’s closer to that than the AAC is to being a Power 6 conference.

    Kind of like the old joke where an American and a Soviet car were entered into a competition. The American vehicle won in every category. When reported in the Soviet newspapers, the headlines read “In Global Competition, Soviet Car Finishes in Second Place While America Finishes Next To Last”. If the AAC was smart, they would refer to themselves at as part of the “Power 5” and add Big 12 as the additional member of the “Power5+1” or the “Power 5 + the Rapey One”.

    It is funny because every single school would bolt the conference if they could for an actual power five conference spot
