Don’t ask me why, but the opener with Appalachian State has been scheduled for 6:15 PM. Not that I’m complaining. Those noon starts in September can be brutally hot.

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
I shudder to think of the ratings and impact to our program if they make a game of it. Let’s not do that ok fellas?

Very surprised. On ESPN, no less.
My only guess is ESPN is counting on this game’s huge upset potential.

Yep, but they’re hedging their bets (see what I did there?) by putting in on ESPN2. I’m sure Beth Mowins will be tanned, rested and ready to call the game.

I’m seeing ESPN, where are you getting 2?

I had dared to hope we might have a night game w/ App State after how they played UT last season. A nooner in September would be unpleasant. Heck, the Clemson game a few years ago was a 4:30 start and was totally brutal.

The cynical side of me thinks this is the AD/ athletic department trying to take the heat off of themselves in regard to all of the recent bad press.

I think that Appy State has been living off if the 2007 Michigan game for years. It gets more ESPN coverage than most teams of its level. Last year it was on twice; the UT game and Miami game.

Why not? There are constant stupid comparisons of team histories agains opponents. It gives em something to talk about.

….and something for Appalachian St to try to live up to.
On national TV.

Why is easy. ESPN is expecting an upset.

Georgia’s opponent in what should be a fairly easy game is always the fashionable upset pick. Of course, over the years we’ve given people plenty of reason to think that way.

Looks like ESPN is trying to fit a lot of games that day into short windows. They have the Clemson game on at noon, the South Carolina game at 3:00, the Georgia game at 6:15, and the LSU game at 9:30. Seems like we TV viewers will be missing some kickoffs. Maybe they will start some games on ESPNNews until the other game concludes.

I like it regardless of the circumstances for why. The Boise game in 2005 was scheduled at a similar time, and the crowd and team were ready for an upset alert type of game. We usually play better at home in starts at or later than 3:30. I think that pushes the home field advantage from 3 to 6 points.
I personally don’t think App will have an answer for our offense unless Chaney brings out his Fat Pencil. We should be able to overwhelm their offense with SEC size and speed. Of course, I thought that in multiple games last year as well.

Yeah, Mac, could you hold off on that drankin’ your handle until just before 1800 hrs? Though I would appreciate it if you would leave your sign up all afternoon.
If you drop by the setup with the cursive “w” (symbolic) above it, feel free to drop in for a Bloody Mary(with jalapeno) and a cookie for early breakfast. You can wear your gun if you want.

Alrighty then, I’ll have your six while you are floating around after those breakfast cookies and unable to defend yourself. It’ll be like All State, you will be in good hands podnah.

The drink and the cookie will mellow you out of your holster. You’ll go back to your tailgate with a “The Amnesian Way, not the Georgia Way” on the nightgown you’ll be wearing that has a peace sign on the back. I’ll even wear a pigtail wig to salve partly your opinion of what I should look like. Wait until you see it with a penguin suit that has outdated lapels! I wear it whenever there is a Dos Equis in my hands.

Knew you would be supporting those damn Mexicans! Whacko confirmed!! But, that pigtail wig is of interest, I am a huge Willie fan.

This will help Georgia. It’s easier to be excited and pumped up to play in front of an evening crowd than lunch time crowd. The overconfident mentality will be diminished and the crowd will be into it.

Or drunker than a bunch of cooters. Fortunately, the fraternities won’t be able to hold out that long and will have puked before coming to the game that they will never remember.

Students won’t get out of bed til noon, they’ll be hitting their stride around 6:00. That kickoff time should make for a great crowd, even for a cupcake game since it’s the opening game.

What is wrong with kids these days. Not getting out of bed until noon for the first tailgating of the season? That’s amateur hour.

The best part is that Appy State will have to sit and stew all day. They don’t get to just jump to the game sans anticipation.
That and I get to hang out with my friends, drink and eat, and not get too sunburned before my trip to Chicago the next week.
