“He knows what it’s like to not make it.”

Nice Dennis Dodd piece on Kirby coming to Georgia:

“He always wanted Georgia,” said a member of Smart’s inner circle standing outside the locker room. “He never knew if he was going to get it.”

That changed after Alabama’s national championship in 2015. The planets aligned. Richt was fired, and the search extended all the way to one guy.

“The first day he came and spoke to us, he was busy with Alabama winning the championship,” tailback Nick Chubb said. “He just looked exhausted. We’re like, ‘Man, what’s this man been up to?'”

Now we know.

  1. Great piece.

“Few teams are covered more intensely (than GA).” Hmm, seems like I remember getting totally lambasted by a few dolt commentators on here last year for arguing that point. Course, they no longer comment much.

  2. Bright Idea

Kirby’s relentlessness has quickly paid off. This team bought in to his style and the butt chewins’. For this success to continue the administration, support system and coaching staff will have to not only tolerate his relentlessness but join it for the long haul. Word is that Kirby never sleeps. What about those around him? How long can they keep up. I’m already hearing that Coley is going to TA&M.

Hopefully Kirby can do the Saban deal for banking future coaches as QC guys so that when one leaves he just promotes a new one and keeps on trucking. He will likely burn out a lot of assistant coaches until he finds his “Kirby Smart” types in his guys like Saban did when he found Kirby.

Anybody know what that explosion was about with an aide as time was expiring? That fat guy will walk the other way for a week till Kirby forgets about it.
