Booch and the glide path to rehabilitation

Really, this is almost perfect.

Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban has been in contact with former Tennessee coach Butch Jones regarding an offensive analyst position, sources told AL.com. Jones has visited Tuscaloosa and met with Saban in person, per sources.

One can only imagine how that interview went.  I don’t suppose Saban’s got time for that Champions of Life/five-star hearts shit, but what do I know?

Surely ol’ Butch is smart enough to realize that a job with Saban is the Golden Ticket back to credibility, and he will 86 all the sloganeering in favor of the preferred method of operation over there before he even interviews. Even the Lanier conformed; you didn’t see any shirtless displays with recruits in his Bama stint.

Seeing as how Saban does not let his assistants speak to the media, this will not be a problem for Booch.
And this has to be Saban’s biggest racket: turning into a 12-step program to rehabilitate former head coaches. He gets great coaching and extremely valuable insights on both himself, as well as his past, current and future competition, and all the coach has to do is toe the line and otherwise keep his mouth shut, and schools will be falling all over themselves to hire them in the next offseason.
To the Senator’s point yesterday about Saban plugging new coaches in, being able to milk the coaches for all their insights is probably worth much more than any “disruption” or break in continuity.

This was my first reaction too – Saban wants all the additional intel that Booch could possibly bring as a former HC of a major conference rival for himself..

Its not just info on Tennessee, Georgia, etc., but also intel on Alabama itself, from an outsider’s perspective. The insight on how other’s perceive your weaknesses is invaluable….

Surely Booch can recognize a bad team on film when he says one. “Play the backups this week coach!”

The things that people said about Butch–players, especially; the deception, lying, and general bs–would seem to make him radioactive. But Saban took Kiffykins, too. Maybe Nick likes liars?

He has already taken one SEC program down with his dizzying BS routine, OK with me if he wants to do damage to Satan’s program. I get Little Nicky trying to reach out and take a wounded colleague under his wing and restore his reputation, or help him overcome some issue in his life, but this one doesn’t make sense to me. Sgt. Carter simply flew his plane into the ground, all the while spewing nonsense and failing to step up to issues, choosing to pretend they didn’t exist. Jones is so unlike Saban, and how he operates, why take on a project who adds so little? Did anyone see an offensive scheme this guy exhibited at TN and wish you had that going on at your school? Me either.

The funny thing to me is that after watching UT for the past 5 years and not knowing his background, I would have bet money Butch was a defensive coach.

I’m sure he’s being brought in to provide intelligence on all of Tennessee’s players for the Third Saturday in October, but come on… does Saban really think he needs that much information to beat the Vols this year? This is an example of having too much money, methinks.

So, Booch is contemplating an “off-field” position? That’s even lower than being Nick’s, “Groom of the Stool.”

At least he’ll see an actual process that works.

Actually, this is good for me because I might lend up learning Photoshop just to paste Booch in over the coke bottle at press conference pictures.

I wanted confirmation ‘Ol Nicky was slipping into panic mode and I think I just got it. Reckon Booch will hold out if Nicky doesn’t let him bring the trash can?

Nick is bringing in Booch to take over for him as HC at Bama when Saban retires. 😉

Only TN can botch the hiring process that badly. Afraid Bama might decline with a coaching change but they aren’t going back to being the Bama of the late 90s and early aughts anytime soon. They have too much money and momentum to fall that far, not to mention a very long line waiting to the new dictator in Tusky. If Sgt. Carter were to be a possibility, UGA should offer to pay his salary.
