Can’t say that I’d blame the kid if he wants to play. Think little fish in huge pond vs little fish in an aquarium. I’d rather he stay but……….

Agree, if he thinks he can start somewhere else, or envisions he could prove himself worthy of playing professionally, he should definitely make the move now. Hate to lose him, but he should do what he most wants to pursue. Only a disaster would allow him any significant playing time at UGA, Kirby has to get his rookie some live game reps, that is a priority.

That’s one way to leverage a scholly for 2018. Can’t blame him. If we have room they should lock him in. We need scout team looks while Fields takes first team reps.

Had the same thoughts…gonna be tough though (room).

That would leave Georgia with a serious problem if we get an injury at QB, which is a very, very real possibility. He would be the first number two.
Is it possible that SB is being “processed”? I hope the F not.

He isn’t on scholarship.

Yeah Thanks for the catch..I didn’t think that through.

I would be shocked if he left Athens. He turned down a handful of scholarship offers because of his love for UGA.

Maybe having second thoughts?

TT is correct, plus, what about Kirby proclaiming that he is game-worthy? He’s been here this long, why not wait until this year is over to be a more important cog in the Dawg machinery.

Wish him well whatever he chooses to do, but honestly, what did he think he was getting into at Georgia? I imagine the coaches were very honest about the situation.

I wouldn’t bet on that.

He walked on. To a team with a freshman QB who just won the SEC and an incoming #1 rated QB. I just don’t see how this could be about misconstruing his chances to play.

I’m talking about the coaches being honest with him.

I know what you’re talking about – I find the insinuation ridiculous.

No, apparrently you do not. Then tell me what I’m insinuating..

According to rivals he had an offer from Columbia, so I assume his grades are very good. That means he probably is on the Hope scholarship and maybe some merit aid. That makes me think getting a scholarship isn’t his big motivator.

His Dad owns several pharmacies, so I highly doubt this is about a scholarship, if it is true at all. If it is true, it would be about playing and him thinking he really had a shot to play a lot somewhere else. They love UGA though. Either way, I’ll be thrilled if he stays, and wish him well if he goes.

Good for him. Either leverage this situation into a scholarship at Georgia or transfer somewhere else and get a scholarship and/or playing time.
I love hearing stories of players using what little leverage they have to their advantage, similar to what their coaching and administrative overlords do all the time (and with much more leverage I might add).

I thought Stetson stated that his folks and he could afford to pay and wanted that scholly to be used for another team member. Amiwrong?

I certainly wish him well, but he simply doesn’t pass the eyeball test when it comes to SEC QB’s, backups or otherwise. Very, very small, and he looks like someone who would play at a Columbia type of program. Let’s be honest here – if he has the opportunity to play at an Ivy League school, it might be wise to take advantage of the opportunity.

The Ivy League doesn’t give out athletic scholarships.

Derek: out of curiosity, do you know if they provide training tables and athletic dorms?

As I remember Stetson Bennett had an offer (such as it goes in the Ivy League) from Columbia. Turned it down then.

That said, UGA already had QB Nick Robinson transfer to Penn and he played there last season.

The Ok QB didn’t pass the “eyeball test” as well, but that didn’t stop him from being drafted. Who was that QB that didn’t pass the “eyeball test” at BC in years past and who played top banana in the Canadian league for years? Besides, hasn’t Stetson proclaimed that he was on the team out of love for Georgia?

I’ve seen Mayfield and Stetson live, in person. If you think they’re of similar build, you’re way off.

May the kid find his best situation he can find. As long as he comes back and graduates from Georgia Law: Stetson Bennett IV just sounds like the lawyer that will makes sure no matter the variety of charges I face will get me a sweet deal at Danville Minimum Security Prison, lol

He’ll be filling prescriptions in South Georgia a few years from now.

Sometimes, what you want at 17 isn’t the same as what you want at 19 when you”re more mature. A lot of students change their major after the first year or two of college. This is similar. Plus, he’s got an SEC Championship ring and got to be a part of national title run. I don’t blame him for wanting to be a starter somewhere. Hes’ been a DGD.
