If this isn’t a “go ahead and make my day” kind of threat, I don’t know what is.

Report: Paul Finebaum may skip SEC Media Days if he doesn’t receive new contract from ESPN https://t.co/Cdnmhdiwvh

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23

Due to what multiple sources have described as incompetence bordering on malfeasance, ESPN has so bungled its negotiations with the SEC Network and ESPN commentator that Finebaum is seriously contemplating offers elsewhere and has let ESPN know that if his deal is not completed in short order he will not be present at SEC Media Days in Atlanta when they begin on July 16th.
Given this is a quote from a Clay Travis piece, does anyone here have any doubts as to who the “multiple sources” is? (That’s not an inadvertent error in subject-verb agreement)

Who is Paul Finebaum and why should I care?

I watch a lot of college football and I bet I’ve seen Paul Finebaum speak for a grand total of 4 or 5 minutes. This is like when you guys complain about Tim Tebow or Herbstreit and Corso on the pregame shows. You know you don’t have to watch. ESPN could broadcast Finebaum for 12 hours a day and wouldn’t affect me at all. If the game comes on at noon or 3:30, that’s when you turn it on. Avoid the rest. Go online if you want insight into the games.

I’ve never listened to his show really, used to catch the back end of some of it when I’d turn on sports center in the afternoons. I don’t care what he does or whether ESPN keeps him, I just find the idea that he’s some indispensable fixture of college football to be funny. If Finebaum wasn’t at SEC media days, really who would notice?

I enjoy the SEC Network shows because of their focus on our conference. Love Maria Taylor (who moved up to the big show I think) Marcus Spears, Booger and Laura Rutledge (Now on sportscenter). Sadly it seems like all the good ones move up to ESPN while the hacks like Tebow and Finebaum stay entrenched.

Is Jimmy Sexton his agent? Is he hanging with Julio and Terrell Owens? Can his callers boycot his show…forever?

His agent actually is Jimmy Sexton. No joke.

Been listening to Finbaum since the mid 80’s, back when he was on radio in Birmingham & it was about all that I could get. Love listening to him, my only real complaint is the obvious Bama bias.

He’s about to find out that you don’t threaten ESPN.

Paul, if you feel you’re in a position were you have to make a threat, then leave. You are playing chicken with a network which is losing money hand over fist, owed by a parent company which doesn’t fully understand college football culture and who’s first thought is; who can we get cheaper.

Personally enjoy the show. It could lose some of the long-time callers – wouldn’t miss that. But I think he does a nice job with the show and his guest (usually pretty strong week in and week out). It would be a shame if he wasn’t there – but not the end of the world. I’m not going to media days… You?

Well good bye and good riddance. Hate the callers more than FBomb but he is just an Alabama homer that got lucky.

I would love it if the sec channel got rid of the talking heads every afternoon and just showed repeats of the previous week’s games. They’d probably get more viewers too.

Finebaum’s show is terrible. So is that Squirrel guy. I am the greatest caller in the history of the show. Hell, I am the show!

Count me in with the “won’t miss him” crowd. Look, his show is MILDLY entertaining during the season. Offseason? I have no idea and I don’t care one iota. Good riddance. Who’s the next grizzard or Munson.
