This ($$), I think, fully qualifies as an existential choice for Georgia’s head coach.
Coley’s connections in the area, and his recruiting prowess in general, was partly why Smart was so reluctant to let him get away. But the ability to bring in Todd Monken to rejuvenate the offense ultimately took priority.
Not that he sought my approval, but that was the right call.
Get The Picture 
Hell, I could be a great recruiter for UGA. The town has everything (except decent tailgating) – pretty girls, supportive fans, beautiful campus, networking after graduation, music, chance at a Natty, etc.
Hopefully, they’ve got a guy who can coach’em up.

Exactly. I’ve never understood the idea that you need a snake oil salesman at a place like Georgia. If i’m a parent, i’m looking at what this guy does from a development and success standpoint way before any types of smoke up my ass stuff which, includes “personality” to a degree. (as long as he’s not a psycho, i’d counsel my kid that he need not be his best friend either)
Georgia’s place as a desirable college destination needs no explanation or sales pitch and this inherent desirability built up over generations leaves a much larger list of potential coaches within the entire pool of coaches who can “sell” Georgia. If you can’t sell Georgia, you are in the wrong line of work on a few levels.

Don’t kid yourself, the relations these kids make with the Coaches is a huge part of recruiting. Every staff has a hired gun or two that is mainly a recruiter…

I still contend Coley was put in a lousy situation. Mandated to run an ultra-conservative offense by Kirby and an offensive staff around him that has questionable coaching abilities. I would’ve preferred Coley remained as a position coach in lieu of Hankton or Hartley. Considering last year’s circumstances, his recruiting ability, his positive contributions as a position coach, and since he was on Kirby’s original staff, I thought Coley merited keeping. But what’s done is done.
At least Monken has a lot of experience of his own, as well as help from experienced assistants in Faulkner and Luke. Word of advice, don’t depend too heavily on Hankton having your WRs prepared.

Not like monken cant recruit. And having a functioning offense and solid QB play helps. Monken long known as a great man.
