The Look

Be afwaid.  Be vewy, vewy, afwaid.

Bryce Young has had the look.

His dad, Craig Young, knows it well. He’s witnessed it before. Several times, in fact, throughout the Alabama football quarterback’s life. And it’s back this offseason.

“I can see that look in his eyes where he’s been so motivated,” Craig said.

… The look appeared again in 2021 when Young strived to take advantage of the open Alabama quarterback spot. He ended up winning the Heisman Trophy.

“This,” Craig said, “looks very familiar to those times.”

Young is fresh off a season that ended with a 33-18 loss to Georgia in the College Football Playoff championship. It was only Young’s fifth loss over his past four seasons of football.

Now, the quarterback who seldom loses has the task of responding to his greatest loss yet.

“He’s hungry,” said Taylor Kelly, a long-time QB trainer for Young. “It’s the hungriest that I’ve seen him.”

So, you’re saying he wasn’t hungry to win a national title?  Maybe he just lost his appetite after Metchie and Williams went down.

This kid is a heck of a QB. Have no doubt that he will have a heck of a year, as long as he avoids getting hurt. They picked up Gibbs (heck of a back); so it comes down to their receivers. And Burton and the kid they picked up out of Louisville give them enough on the WR side. And not sure where their Tight Ends sit. Defense should be quite good, if not down right great.

It isn’t like Georgia is being disrespected here. Pretty much everybody is expecting them to win th East. Though you do read to watch out for USCjr. or UTjr. or Kentucky. And you never know about Auburn; better than y’all think they are (no they are not).

Granted, we see things through Red and Black glasses; but those glasses are pretty clear. Offense stays healthy; Georgia should score a LOT of points. Enough to allow the defense to Gell as the season goes. If all goes right, the team that Alabama will be staring out facing will have the better, more dangerous offense and with a defense that isn’t too far from where the Bama on is -and better in some key positions.

But… If the Dawgs do run the table and whip Alabama in the SEC Championship, then there will be a LOT of talk, and deservedly so, that Saban’s Palawan is now the master.

Great time to be a DAWG..

One other thought. Their O-Line has not been the O-Line’s of past since they went to pass happy offenses. It will be interesting to see what that group looks like this year as well. Remember, they brought a kid in from Vanderbilt (portal), who is solid, but not great, and it looks like he will start.

Needed four ot’s to get a “W” against the barners was not what resume’s are built on, that seccg was a fair to good game plan, the trophy game showed the alabamia qb may just be above average, against a good 3 phase team…GO DAWGS! (sometimes average is good enough)

Agree, they could have easily lost 3 last year, probably should have. I don’t think he’s all that myself.

I prefer the look he had as Kirby was pulling him up after his wounded duck throw that Keelee picked off to seal the National Championship game. Maybe if he didn’t spend so much time licking his lips he doesn’t underthrow that ball. Seriously, what’s up with that???

The Look of a QB whose team just got beat by a Georgia team lead by a back up walk on QB throwing touchdowns to Freshmen receivers!

I remember watching his post-game comments after the natty and thinking that he was gonna have a chip on his shoulder all offseason. He seemed like he put that whole loss on himself. As cliched as that stuff about “having the look” may sound, it actually wouldn’t surprise me if he’s more motivated than he was before.

It’s not a lot different than Stetson saying “we’re not gonna lose this thing because of me” after his costly fumble in that game. I’m sure he wanted to win before that, but he was desperate to win afterwards.

Sticks and stones may break my bones so please don’t throw sticks and stones. And you are correct. All the nice places in the US and Europe are amenable to that sort. The rest of the world? Not so much.
Where I come from, to paraphrase a fictional Ranger, we didn’t put up with that and we still don’t put up with it.

He isnt the only one. But you know that.

But you want to get pissy with the guy that calls you on it, not the guy that uses the slurs. You should really consider why these people feel so comfortable using that type of language in your comment section.

This is a football blog…from time to time old farts like me might be crude…if Bluto has to step in, he does, and in this case RR complied…no push back. settled, done.

Like many of you good people I have been coming here for years, and grateful for that…I’ve learned over that period of time that the vast majority of readers and commentators are men who appear in large part to be over 40 years in age. Dudes who are pretty long in the tooth and successful in their own rights are hard to persuade. I respect that.

As long as we don’t make things personal, or try to stir up whirlwinds like the old play pen days, Bluto allows for healthy debate…I respect that.

This is a Georgia Football blog, that commonality for me is a bigger uniter than other distractions, and that’s why I keep coming back…that, and because some of you gents are funny as hell. Go Dawgs

Rude, crude and socially unacceptable is better than fat, drunk and stupid. We all know how to behave; but, sometimes I don’t act accordingly. You won’t see me snivel about the rules. Hell, I’m a guest here. If it was an actual party I’m sure some of the girls would be less likely to hurl insults. Me? I’m comfortable using any language online or in person. But I will stand corrected.

The Audible just had a guy on who wrote a book about QB Dads. I might suggest taking anything from Young’s dad with a grain of salt.

QB Young is just trying to put in the work and get better. It’s what you should want from every player every off season. It makes the entire game better.

This is exactly what I would expect to hear from his camp. Every year the same clichés come out from the teams and players that don’t win the championships. “Unfinished business”, ” renewed focus”, “that one still hurts”, “don’t want that feeling again” are all timeless quotes from the players and coaches that didn’t win the big game.

Young is a very good qb but he benefitted from having two generational talents at wide receiver on the field at the same time. I know Burton isn’t a generational talent and the Louisville kid probably isn’t as well.

I noticed that. My aching ass he’s six feet tall. There is no way. He’s good but he’s soft. The one time he didn’t have every single offensive weapon he wanted and had a defense that was coming after his ass he was nothing special. He can give all the looks he wants but that’s still true.

Is it possible that the Metchie and Williams line can be used at any time and never gets old? Love it. Young is a great QB, but he’s slight and can clearly get rattled with pressure. Really hope our front 7 develops around Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith this year.

BY is skilled, obviously, but he’s fragile as a Faberge egg. Bama starting OL gonna include a Vandy transfer? The Dawgs’ D will f’n eat in ATL, if it plays up to its potential and is healthy.

  18. After going through all the comments, I’m confused by the Young is fragile theme. I watched several of Bama’s games last season in which the other team hit him many times. All I ever saw was BY getting back up & moving to the next play. That includes the beating he took in the title game. He may not be the greatest qb without great receivers, but fragile he ain’t.
