Today’s chapter of “Kids These Days”

Like many of us, Hugh Freeze longs for a simpler time.  You know, like back in the days when he was the Ole Miss head coach before there was NIL complicating things on the recruiting trail.  It’s just not the same anymore.

Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze believes in the “process of becoming.”

It’s the same process that helped Freeze rise from the high school football ranks to being the head coach of a place like the SEC.

It took patience, stops at Lambuth University and Arkansas State and getting over plenty of bumps in the road that came along the way.

That same process is why Freeze prefers recruiting high school kids over plucking them out of the transfer portal.

“My preference would be to develop kids,” Freeze said. “But the process of becoming is kinda being lost.”

A dollar doesn’t go as far as it used to, eh?

That’s not the most eyerolling bit in the article, though.  This is:

Today’s society is one that constantly seeks instant gratification.

Do tell.  If anyone’s an expert in instant gratification, it’s Coach Escort Service On Speed Dial.

He wouldn’t be a true Christian without the hypocrisy.

Whether you realize it or not, you are 100% correct. Christians are hypocrites by definition. I should know, being both.

WCD is good people and I think I understand his intent.
My wife is a devout and true Christian, yet you’d never hear that from her but would know through her actions. I am in awe.
On the other hand my mom is a Bible thumping, scripture quoting, Baptofacist. She’s also a junkie enabler, liar and thief along with her daughter. I am disgusted and disappointed. My late Dad warned me about those two and I planned accordingly.
The world ain’t always what it seems, brothers and sisters.

WCD was one of the Covid fascists who wanted to shun the unvaccinated from polite society. I’ll never forget his disdain for fellow human beings who chose differently than him and have been proven correct over time. He can keep his booster shots and Faucism along with his self righteousness to himself.

As someone who grew up in the church (and is still an active member) there’s almost a one for one correlation between how much someone self proclaims their piety and how hypocritically awful they are.

The most Christ like people don’t tell you with their words, they live it with their actions.

(for the uninitiated, kennesaw, west Cobb is a hot bed for sanctimonious hypocrites who use their religion to simultaneously judge others while justifying their own awful behavior, modern manifestations of the white washed tombs that jesus references)

Jeebus, we’re all a bit touchy today. Not to mention self-righteous.

FYI, I’ve gone to church since birth. Not to mention years of bible classes. If people aren’t aware of the contrast between what’s preached on Sunday versus what’s done in daily life they are deluding themselves.

To be clear my comment was more of a comment on west Cobb less about Christian hypocrisy

West Cobb County has virtually tens of thousands of residents from all over the country and world, every race and culture..and you paint them all with one big ugly brush which few of them deserve.
Your very comments tell us what you are. Someone who points the finger at people he doesn’t even know, likely hoping that others won’t notice his own warts.
Every human being on this planet is a hypocrite…including me and esp. me.
I’m a Christian NOT because I’m good. If I was good, I wouldn’t need salvation. But like everyone else, I need to be reconciled to God and I believe I am through Christ.
It has nothing to do with my or any other’s “goodness”.
And for the record, I don’t live anywhere near W Cobb.

              A confession, Originaluglydawg,
I grew up in DeKalb County in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. I moved away for my career in the 1980s. My outlook about Cobb Countians was formed during those years and I figured that it was unchanged except with more people and wider roads.
I was shocked when my son and daughter in law decided to buy a house in Cobb. Their house is in the City of Smyrna but the Mabelton post office services them.
In the couple of years they have been their I have been stunned by how diverse his area is. His area of Cobb is exactly the opposite of how I remember that area and its culture and attitudes were in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.
His is a mixed race marriage and I have three wonderful biracial grandchildren and they are happy living there ( she is an Asian-American heritage and there are other Asian-Americans there, too.).

I regret that I got involved in this discussion.
This whole thing should be exhibit A in the case against bringing up religion, politics, etc. on a sports’ blog.
I regret and apologize for any unkind words I used towards fellow posters and Dawg fans.
              Save the vitriol for TWLOCP.

Somewhere in the Bible it says to pray (practice your religion) in PRIVATE. Not on the Senator’s GTP comment section.
                You can look it up.

Given my handle. . . Freeze makes me a bit queasy too. However, speaking on principle, i’ve staked my life on forgiveness and reconciliation that comes from above humans. I hope Hugh has truly repented and changed. Cus I need that same hope for my sorry @$$.

Posting as some of the boys that drank way too much strong ass coffee since 0 dark thirty with no alcohol to temper the caffeine (why drink all day with no Dawgs game to lube up for, right?) I’d say I wouldn’t change a damn thing I did in my past. Regrets? 🎶I’ve had a few.
Most all my bad decisions came during my leisure time where I gained valuable experience in dealing with my fuck ups. I learned to control my impulses while still being decisive. It’s a fine line and one way makes you a milquetoast while the other extreme can lead to disaster. Fortunately I worked under forgiving men with similar experiences who steered me in the proper direction while allowing me to make some mistakes. As in ST:TNG Tapestry a zero tolerance for shenanigans attitude might’ve protected me physically; but, I’d still be slogging along in some boring, meaningless job instead of enjoying a career where I literally have a blast daily, engender respect from those important to me and thank the Good Lord that I have all my digits.
I trust He will forgive me my multitude of transgressions. He knows I try.

RR – I wouldn’t change a thing either. I’ve drunk enough rum to float a battleship, and that’s one of my better qualities.

I’ve tapered off my drinking in the last few years to almost nothing. Not a conscious decision. I simply don’t feel like drinking. Sometimes physical pain is so bad in the morning that I’ll break a 10mg Lortab in half and wash it down with Skyy vodka from the bottle. That’s rare and leads to a dark road I don’t want to go down. Cold beer on a hot day, glass of wine while cooking but none of that hard drinking with the boys anymore. I do miss my buds occasionally.
I’m not as sharp and really don’t need to take the edge off I reckon.
No pressure to win a National Championship.
          Life is good.

If I tell you to get the fuck back you need to heed that advice. If I’m running you’d best keep up unless I’m running from a bear. Then if you get ahead I’m putting a bullet in the back of your knee. ‘Ain’t got to outrun the bear. Just got to outrun you.

While the messenger isn’t the best to make that statement, he isn’t wrong about kids being willing to invest in development. It isn’t just athletes. I see it every day with new hires. First question asked on the first day of work is generally: 1. when is lunch, 2. why can’t I be in charge or 3. haven’t I earned a raise and promotion yet?

I’m not anti transfer. If you are talented enough to start somewhere else, go that route. College athletes have limited years to display their talent. But you also have to develop your kraft. Every incoming freshman isn’t ready to be a starter just like every kid out of tech school isn’t ready to get a truck and run a crew.

I have at least two Auburn friends who put their money where their mouths were and cancelled their Auburn football season tickets and donations when the War Tiger Bird Plainspeople hired Hugh Freeze as head coach. They are in the minority and I saw the Auburn Family was all in on Freeze when we were down there last month. They’re going to jump ship fast, though, if he doesn’t produce an offense by next year.

Georgia really needs to make sure Freeze never establishes a meaningful recruiting beach head. I will not tolerate losing to that clown. Winning close was bad enough.
