The best defense…

I thought this was the most significant thing Smart said in last night’s post-game presser:

“I thought it was a really, really good performance by the offense. I thought defensively there were times that we were off balance. The offense, our offense made them play a little left handed. You can’t sit there and be methodical if you’re down that quickly.

We knew they would struggle to play from behind. That’s not their style of play. the quick start played big time to our advantage. Now it wasn’t a complete performance on defense. Statistically it will say that in terms of the numbers but not for what I would like to have.”

Honestly, the defense didn’t play all that well early on.  Kentucky did an excellent job getting the defensive front to bite on misdirection repeatedly.  But it soon didn’t matter because Georgia’s offensive blitzkrieg took the ‘Cats out of their offensive gameplan.

Maybe, just maybe, the Dawgs are centering in on this season’s identity:  a pass-first outfit that uses offensive production to aid the defense in shutting down the opponent’s ability to stay in the game.  Perhaps some of you think that’s been obvious, but for somebody like Kirby Smart to accept that — especially with a new quarterback — ain’t as easy as you might think.

Siri, what is coaching malpractice?

I’ve watched this clip a half dozen times now, and I still don’t believe it happened.

Incredibly, it’s the second time in Mario Cristobal’s career he’s lost a game like that.  How is he still employed at Miami this morning?

Kid, I know just what you mean.  Dayum…

TFW Rara Thomas became a Dawg

This is great.

The body control on the catch was incredible, I know.  But the bigger deal to me was the way last night felt like the first time Thomas seemed fully integrated into the Georgia offense.

Here’s what Smart had to say about that:

“Yeah he’s the biggest guy that can change our offense. We have some guys that can do things, obviously Brock is special. Carson has played well. There are are a lot of guys who can do things. It loosens your whole defense up when you’ve got a guy at X that can win some one on ones. If he comes to life and keeps growing like he’s done, he makes us harder to defend. Because there are a lot of answers you have, it’s hard to answer if the guy can go up and catch the ball one-on-one.”

Sometimes, you start slow because you’re not mentally into the flow of the game.  And sometimes, you start slow because you’re in the process of figuing out how all the pieces fit together.

The difference between Kirby Smart and Lane Kiffin

Kirby doesn’t know who Miley Cyrus is.  Kiffin probably has Miley Cyrus on his speed dial.

The rudest thing Kirby Smart can say about an opposing team.

I mean, this is a slap in the face:

We probably didn’t get Kentucky’s best shot.

Let the Dawgrading commence!

UPDATE:  In case you think I’m kidding, here’s the lovely Heather Dinich ($$) to set things straight.

When the College Football Playoff selection committee meets on Halloween to reveal its first ranking, the group will not discuss Georgia’s back-to-back national titles nor is it supposed to be influenced by them.

The committee will evaluate the Bulldogs’ résumé to that point, and Saturday’s win against Kentucky might be their only one against a ranked opponent — if the No. 20 Wildcats are even ranked.

Which leaves the possibility that Georgia might not be No. 1.

(Insert audible gasp here.)

While it’s certainly possible Georgia ultimately ends this season where it began — as the nation’s premier program — the committee’s weekly snapshots reward the teams that have played the best against the toughest competition. At this point, with several undefeated teams still on the board, No. 1 is up for debate.

At least it is, if she has any say about it.
