Just like Georgia Tech, FSU has two I-AA schools on its ’08 schedule. The thing is, Papa Bowden has elected to open with them back to back. At least he admits why he’s doing it:

FSU on Friday released its 2008 schedule, which features season-opening games at home against Division I-AA teams Western Carolina, on Sept. 6, and Chattanooga on Sept. 13. The Seminoles had begun their three previous seasons on Labor Day night in nationally televised games against marquee competition.

But Bowden acknowledged that wasn’t an option this season because of FSU’s investigation into academic fraud, which will leave his team without several starters for the first three games of 2008.

“We had to give up a Monday night game, which I hated to give up because of the [lost] exposure,” Bowden said this week. “But there’s no way we would be ready to play a ranked team at that time.”

The ACC is gonna have one helluva strength of schedule ranking this season.
