I promised to keep you abreast of the tweaks and developments being made to the Mumme Poll for this season. So here’s something new for everyone to chew on.
No, we’re not adding a preseason poll.
Instead, we’ll be adding several voices to the commentary once the ballots start flowing, for the purpose of spicing up the content for you. That’s right, each week along with my keen insight that kept almost half of our voters engaged in the process last year, you’ll also be hearing from this motley crew of college football blogging gurus:

- David Hale, of Bulldogs Blog
- Jerry Hinnen, of The Joe Cribbs Car Wash

Seriously, that’s an impressive bunch who should give you a lot to look forward to. There’s a good variety of allegiances and perspectives represented there. Somebody’s bound to get under your skin sooner or later.
The plan is for the group to post their poll-inspired thoughts with each weekly ballot. You’ll certainly be given the opportunity to respond. All in all, it should lead to some lively debate on the subject, which is all we can ask.
There will be more news about the poll and the new site that I’ll post here as we get closer and closer to the launch point. Rest assured that Tidefan will have the setup in place prior to the fifth week of the season, so that you’ll have plenty of time to register and we can go through one practice vote (as we did last year) to make sure the process functions properly. Stay tuned.

Where for art the love, Mac?
In troubling times like these, maybe we all should take a step back from the pressures of The SEC Pre-Season, close our one good eye, take a raspy cleansing breath and heed a little advice from Teddy Roosevelt, America’s 26th President, who if he hadn’t been dead for so long, and were still around and running an SEC football blog might say:

Have to admit I haven’t heard the term “peckerwood” in a couple of decades, thanks for reaching deep Dog in Florida! I welcome the additional input and balance these changes should bring to the poll, just hope the basic premise the original poll was founded on doesn’t get hijacked. Very solid thinking to not have folks married to premature, pre-season picks, and to not have to assign a specific numerical ranking to teams.

Just to make it very clear: we’re not changing any of the rules or procedures this year. So the vote will officially start after the games of week six have been played, everyone will still vote for twelve teams and we’ll still use a top five tiebreaker if necessary.
My big concern is with greater numbers comes a greater chance of somebody trying to game the vote. But Tidefan tells me we’ll have safeguards in place to deal with that should it happen.

Well, I hope it takes off and the unique style of voting proves to be popular. Who knows, maybe the Senator & Co. can get the WWL and the BCS by the short-curlies and have it replace the coaches poll.
