Kris Durham sums up Georgia’s early season predicament in one simple paragraph.
“Our goals have turned into honestly, one game at a time, looking at Vanderbilt,” senior receiver Kris Durham said. “We can’t look past that. We’ve already tried that and it wasn’t successful. So we talked about winning the East, we talked about winning the SEC, and hopefully being in the national title at the beginning of the year. But what we didn’t focus on was coming out, fighting to the finish, and doing the little things, the little steps it does take to accomplishing those goals.”
By the way – message to Greg McGarity: if Georgia finishes with a 5-7 regular season record, don’t even think about accepting a bowl bid. The year may go down the toilet, but at least the program can maintain some dignity about it.

off-topic PS – rewatched the TN game, and TK12 made a number of fantastic blocks on some of the game’s biggest plays. I haven’t seen that mentioned.

Seems like the bowl provides some extra practice time for the players. I thought that was very important to a program.

Not disagreeing with the beneath us vibe to go to a bowl at 5-7.
I know I’m preaching to the choir here but, last three seasons were 8-5, 10-3, 11-2.
I have read so many times that besides a reward for players, trip, national exposure, the most important thing with limited practices is the reps you get from playing in a bowl. It’s probably felt these kids don’t deserve to go to a bowl. Wouldn’t it mean a lot to go 6-6 win the bowl game and finish this nightmare season on a winning 7-6 note. I don’t want the kids mailing it in and thinking this season is done. I feel we need every rep we can get and these coaches need every opportunity to tune the kids and their coaching ability up.

Any bowl game that has a losing record ought to be held in the loveliest of vacation spots to reflect the team’s excellence. I can think of a few: Anchorage, Alaska; Duluth, Minnesota; Syracuse, New York. I do hear Dubai is nice in December. They can play that game in Dubai and probably get a nice pay-out.

By the way, what’s really sad to me about that quote is that they weren’t looking at things that way before. Perhaps it takes a few losses to get the 18-22 year old mindset to focus on priorities in the right order, ’cause I cannot imagine the coaches didn’t preach it.
Though I think I might want to ban all talk of anything but the next game, personally.

If they go 5-7, the odds are likely that there will be some coaching changes made. Given that, I think the postseason utility argument loses a lot of its luster.

Sometimes players who take things for granted need to have it taken away to rekindle desire. I think it would be a better statement to the players to stay home at 5-7 than go to Buttfackistan to play some other also-ran and get rewarded for it.

100% disagree on your rejection of a bowl. The time between the last game and the bowl game would be viable practice that our whole team needs especially our defense. We wont have any pride left if we perform badly next year.

As a Dawg fan, I spend the off-season reading blogs, watching recruiting, and itching like hell for the season to get started. Then it all goes by too fast.
Do I want the chance to watch one more game, even if paired against a nobody in a nowhere venue?

Am I the only one who just feels like this season needs a mercy killing? It’s funny, I used to count down the minutes and watch the clock drag by in anticipation for Saturday to get here to see what we could do. Since ’08, I have just longed for the season to get over with before further embarrassing ourselves. I think that is a testament to where we are out right now.

Before you pull the plug, look on the bright side. We still can foul up things for Florida or Auburn or win the ACC Coastal again. Plus making the coaches work an extra month for their pay to get ready for a weedeater/multilevel marketing bowl somewhere.
