Rogers Redding has been named the national coordinator for college football officiating by the board of managers for the College Football Officiating, LLC.
Redding will function as the central officiating leader for College Football Officiating, LLC, established by the Collegiate Commissioners Association and the NCAA in 2007 to ensure a consistent application of playing rules and officiating mechanics. He previously served as the Southeastern Conference Coordinator of Football Officials and is the Secretary-Rules Editor for the NCAA Football Rules Committee. The appointment takes effect on February 1.
No word yet on which Georgia Tech graduate will be his successor.
The obvious choice is Coach Paul Johnson.
He is easily the brightest man in college football today.
What’s more, rigorous studying in law school well prepared him to be HC at Georgia Tech while simultaneously being director of officiating in the SEC.

I think it’s pretty clear who’ll be taking Redding’s place.

That seems both premature and excessive. Where’s my flag?

What in the hell could make them think he’s qualified for that job?
I personally think Steve Shaw should become the head man in the SEC. A man with bleached hair could never think any amount of celebration is too much.

Good choice. Steve didn’t even throw a flag on Les when Les was counting out loud.

Great. Now he can make sure we get screwed in non-conference games as well.

On a related “excessive celebration” note. Did anyone see the Big 11 travesty on the excessive celebration penalty on Kansas State when the guy saluted after scoring the potentially tying TD? Meanwhile, just a few hours later, Tennessee is doing everything up to a throat slash every time they get as much as a first down, and that Big 11 crew never throws a flag. Glad to know the SEC doesn’t hold a complete lock on incompetent officiating.

You can bet Roger has hand picked his GT successor. Just like the GT guy before him did.

I’m having trouble what a larger organization saw in Redding… must have been his eloquence and even-handedness.

He was co-ordinator of officiating for the most successful football conference in the US, that’s what. That said, with all the controversy during his tenure ( LSU-UGA 2009; LSU-BAMA 2009; ARK-FLA 2009, etc.) you would think anyone in a position of authority would be leery of him.

Steve Shaw will take Reddings’s place.

Why do I have the feeling that somehow in some way at some time in the not-so-distant future, this will come back to bite us? That’s the paranoia Colorado, MSU, and UCF have instilled in me.
Don’t think we win the coin flip either.
