“We are training for football.”

Ordinarily, I’d brush quotes like this off as typical Georgia offseason sunshine pumping…

“I look at it this way,” Tereshinski said. “When December comes, I want to be able to sit in my chair and say I did everything I could in my power, in my mind and my heart and my soul, to make the Georgia football program better than I found it, when it comes to the strength and conditioning area.”

… except that the man radiates so much intensity about his business, even through a printed interview, I’m afraid he’d track me down and make me answer for it.

I just hope he’s making his players feel the same way.

I’m optimistic about 2011, I really am. But I’m done with getting suckered in by offseason quotes from players, new coordinators, etc. I won’t allow myself to get jacked up by the strength and conditioning switch until I see a Boise State player limping off of the Georgia Dome field, will broken.

This quote resonates with me WAY more:

“We are not Olympic training anymore,” Tereshinski said. “We are training for football.”

I don’t doubt that Van had them working hard in the weight room. I just think he had them working the wrong way. Focusing on core strength is so much more important than some of the measurables like bench press, 40 times, etc. Granted, they go hand-in-hand to a certain extent, but just because one guy can bench more than another guy doesn’t necessarily mean he’s going to be stronger on the field. There’s not too many movements during the course of a football game that mirror push a bar straight up and down.

Agreed. I know Coach T will give his all for the program. I just hope it sticks. I think it will.

That’s the safe play Senator. Rumor has it that he already found Bulldog Joe and kicked his ass.

I actually got to sit in on a pregame meeting before the Tech game (this was either 4 or 6 years ago. A relative had bought it at auction and it was a Christmas gift) Right before we got on the bus, Richt got up to speak and you had to strain to hear what he was saying. At the end of his talk, he simply said, “Coach T”. (I got the feeling it was a pre-game ritual) Suffice to say, he went nuts. He showed a video of Tech designed to inspire some old fashioned hate and used some choice language. It was actually funny, but telling as to the man’s passion for UGA.
