Some days, you know it’s going to be fun to blog.

This sort of popped up out of nowhere.

Georgia Tech is expecting to receive at 10 a.m. news from the NCAA into alleged violations committed by the football program within the past several years.

The nature of the violations isn’t known. It isn’t known if this is the beginning or end of an inquiry or investigation.

We may not know, but we can always hope.

UPDATE:  Lots of rumors swirling.  This one’s as good as any.

You know what would be hilarious?  If Tech had to vacate wins from the 2008 season.

UPDATE #2:  This, too.

… What gets me is this: Atlanta is home to one of the more significant newspapers in the Southeast. It’s also home to two sports talk radio stations and major market television stations. Several regional and national college football pundits are based here. And we’re just finding out about an NCAA investigation into a BCS-level program on judgement day? That’s some good work. But I’m sure that if you wanted Brent Benedict’s thoughts on the situation, the Atlanta paper could have that for you by close of business today.

This sounds like it’s going to be even more fun than the last time they got in NCAA trouble. Looks like some nerds I know are going to be eating some more words about cheating…

Parole Board chairman: They’ve got a name for people like you H.I. That name is called “recidivism.”
      Parole Board member: Repeat offender!
Parole Board chairman: Not a pretty name, is it H.I.?
H.I.: No, sir. That’s one bonehead name, but that ain’t me any more.
Parole Board chairman: You’re not just telling us what we want to hear?
      H.I.: No, sir, no way.
Parole Board member: ‘Cause we just want to hear the truth.
H.I.: Well, then I guess I am telling you what you want to hear.
Parole Board chairman: Boy, didn’t we just tell you not to do that?
      H.I.: Yes, sir.
      Parole Board chairman: Okay, then.

    • That’s pretty excellent.

It’s almost a shame this is happening to Tech, since we hardly even compete for recruits — or wins, for that matter — with them anymore.

Would be even better if USCe or UF tanked instead.

Is it an NCAA violation to give four hot dogs and four cokes to a recruit?

It is amazing that the AJC seems to have a staff member dedicated to filing daily FOI request from UGA and trolling the Athens City and Clark Co. police blotters for any possible nugget. However, apparently Tech has been under investigation from the NCAA for some time now, given they are receiving investigation finding today, and there has been no mention in the press.

Not to get all paranoid, but there is ZERO chance of such a situation with UGA. The day the letter of inquiry arrived from Indianapolis it would have been an hour or less it would be on the front page of the ACJ.com.

Maybe part of the problem is that we have too many people in UGA administration who can’t seem to keep from leaking info in furtherance of their various agendas. I would say I hope McGarity can begin tightening down on this problem, but part of it seems to involve his boss.

Reasons given by the AJC sports pundits?
    a. Too busy reading about Chizik v. NCAA in Destin
    b. Radakoviched because he did not tell us
    c. Does not directly involve Mark Richt
    d. Who moved my FOIA forms?
    e. Do not want to be called stupid by CPJ
