Kiffin watch: Having a great time, Vol fans. Wish you were here.

With Matt Barkley’s announcement that he intends to return for his senior year, Southern Cal, which returns a bunch of starters from this year’s 10-win group, inserts itself into the 2012 national title hunt, despite dealing with the effects of crippling NCAA sanctions.

Meanwhile, Tennessee, dealing with the crippling effect of having had Mike Hamilton as an athletic director, is simply hoping to become bowl eligible again.

Junior continues to be the knife twisting slowly into the soul of every Vol fan.

  1. People can discount Kiffin’s character, but it seems his decision making has been spot on. SoCal provides him with a very deep talent pool and he doesn’t have to recruit against UF, AU, Bama, UGA, or USCe on a consistent basis.

Will USC be eligible to play in Pac 12 Champ and/or the NC game next year? If so, it would be additional Dawg food to get to the NC to correct the Kiffen inequity that rots my soul.

Always glad to see players stay in school and not bolt to the NFL but Barkley should look at the other USC QBs that have flopped in the NFL. Palmer, and Lienart have never achieved and Sanchez can only throw 10 yard bombs hoping the receivers can break tackles while running a limited offense because he cannot read defenses. You have to wonder how much anyone in the PAC 12 understands about defense. I wouldn’t be too concerned about facing Barkley, they have better athletes at other positions but the national media has to push USC every chance they get.

I heard a guy on Satellite Radio say yesterday that this announcement alone guarantees USC will be pre-season Top 3 next year. And you anti-playoff guys like the way pollsters determine things. This is the saddest time of the year, watching a great season be concluded with no playoff to match the best teams from each area on the field. We do a great getting her to the bedroom, then flop when we should be getting it on.
