Shorter John Adams:  if you pretend that running backs don’t count, Tennessee’s offense blows away the rest of the SEC East.

    Wow, with a wave of his keyboard, his rotunditry (see what i did there?) anoints the Bray to Hunter/Patterson as the SEC’s most dynamic pitch catch combo. TK drops too many, and Murray doesn’t have anyone else. This’ll be fun to watch! Please Mr. Adams do continue! So much to learn from one game…

    I was impressed by Bray’s arm strength however.

    So – A few things about the UT game…One, receivers aren’t going to score on 5 yards hitches in the SEC no matter how good they are. And 2, Tyler Bray isn’t going to have 10 seconds to make throws. The pass rush from NC State was very very bad at times.

    In case there was someone who missed the differentiation in the kicking game, two kickers were employed. One did puches and spot kicks quite well and another punter hit a 51 yd avg with two punts, one going for 57+ yds. When you look at punting avgs, you don’t see that distinction. Our kicking game is in good shape thus far.

      Good point. The punting approach actually looks as if somebody put some thought into it. And the new kick-off rule seems to be custom made for the Dawgs. Gurley’s return – ’nuff said. And, last but not least, Conley’s adjustment to the Bulls pooch punts was awesome – resulting in a block. The ST’s had a terrific day.

      I agree on the punting side but will reserve judgement on the place kicking. Morgan has a strong leg so kickoffs look solid but his consistency on FGs and XPTS, This is not an overreaction to the first missed FG, he hit that very well although the size of the miss from a center position was concerning. I think I remember an XPT being very close, and trajectory being lower that usual for such a short kick. Opening game for a frosh so I am not reading too much into it but iPK remains on my TBD list.

    Went to this game with a UT friend. Bray won’t even have to have his uniform washed after that game. State had no pass rush at all. He had forever to throw on most every play. I don’t know what to think of UT after that game other than Bray has a good arm, and I hate that we missed on CP. He’s a good one….but most likely a one year player. Adams saying the best play makers outside of USCw? Really? Also, Bennett had a good game for us on Saturday, as did Wooten.

        By the way, I’m partial to Wooten and am really pulling for his comeback from injury. When he picked UGA over LSU, he made my personal class. Looks like his speed has picked up and it already was good.

        I would like to start an idea for cheering for him. If you remember the “happy British ships” in “The Guns of Navarone”after they blew up the guns, I think that would be a great cheer: woot!, woot!, WOOT!!, WOOT!! would sound great from the stands to him, but moreso coming loudly from the Student Section.

    If Murray could ever learn to turn the nose of the ball over on a screen we would pick up a heck of an offensive weapon.

      If it’s not a Bubble Screen he can’t throw it. I have yet to see him hit a run of the mill screen pass. I believe he can’t see his target in the middle of all the tall lineman. I hold my breath everytime he tries.

        The screen to the RB is a long developing play where the QB has to retreat and allow the rush to come upfield before dumping the ball off. Our line has been so bad the past few years that they can’t even chip/fake block long enough to give the play time to develop. His height might have something to do with it as well but not as much as people may think

        We ran a FB pass play on Saturday where the RB was supposed to cut the rusher from the playside (in this case I think it was the OLB) so Murray could dump the ball off to RSIV. What happened was Marshall engaged the OLB instead of cutting him and he ended up batting the ball down.

          Of course there was another pass to RSIV in the flat where Murray just missed… He can’t do that in games that matter.

        I seem to remember the screen play to Crowell last year against Sakerlina being one of those run of the mill types.
